1. The Icons should show their status.
Activated
Moseover
Disabled etc.
2. The icons should show tooltips. |

Every icon!
For example: Paint over existing material. Click it, but you don't see that
you activated it.
(I think it is a bug. But for me bugs are crashs and wrong functions) |

Not a bug. Just the way it's currently implemented. It works, but doesn't give enough feedback to the user.
I very much would much prefer toggle buttons to static bitmaps.

yeaH i noticed this the other day too, for a second i thought they were just for show, would definatly prefer some kind of reaction from the button, at least just to stop you pressing it while the computer does what you want |

Well the mouse icon shows which tool is active and right click in D3D View deactivates said tool. |

trueBlue if you have the VRay material editor open in the Panel tab there is no feedback via mouse over or even when you click an icon such as "paint object". Now you do get this feedback with the toolbar icons in the bottom left but not the in the panel tab. That needs to be addressed. Also I find that when I select the ME inspect tool in the toolbar it becomes hard to get rid of it when I select other icons, even the "object" arrow icon.
A feature I would like to see that the material editor has on the model side is the ability to "reset all" the materials back to the defaults which i cant seem to do now so it is a pain to go through each shader to get back to a default state.
On a positive note I do like "seeing" the transparency shader with the other shaders and not a small icon on the color shader. |

I know what you are saying.
But this is how it works for me on my rig using Vista Premium 32 bit.
I can select the tools in the Material Editor "Workspace" and my mouse icon changes to give me a visual clue that the tool is in use just like the toolbars do. If I right click in D3D View then the mouse icon changes back to the pointer and deactivates that tool. If I right click any of the tools in the Material Editor and select Reset, well it resets to default settings. |

Got it. Yes, they need mouse over, and mouse click icons. |

the toolbars work poorly three copies of an icon when its selected
sometimes it pops open ok, then other times it won't stay open as you move the mouse up to choose :( |
