Yumm! free flavoured software, my favourite!
Hi guys, nice to be amongst you all.
Give me a sec to affix the 'L' plates to my monitor.. there now thats done, mm this isnt so much a WIP as it is a LIP ( learning in progress ).
I seem to be struggling most with the lighting of objects/scenes so please if you have any pearls of wisdom for me please pass them along, i have been checking out the free tutorials from the website which have helped greatly and would like to say thanks, really nice work to the guys that produced them.
anyway the first pic

FLIP :) thats good

Thanks, mm im not sure what is considered high poly, it shows the count as 38276?. There are a lot of mistakes in the model, which was pretty much modelled using only primitives, sweeps, subtractions and bevels, for example whilst trying to figure out how to group objects together i somehow managed to join the barrel, top slide and a couple of other parts into one solid object ( no idea how to break it back up :( ), the rifling in the barrel always shows brighter than the barrel when rendered ( i think it should be darker ) even though its painted in the same material, the engraved text in the slide is different colours :) this happened because when i subtracted the larger text from the slide it freaked out and the slide turned into some weird triangle thing with holes in it and in the handgrip thumb groove the lowest part always seems to render weird like a black fan shape? there are many others but ill stop boring u with them all :) the lighting settings were poached straight from the illustrator course. |

FLIP - That's good - and the fastest way to learn is from people who have done it before - thus 'poaching' from the illustrators course is an excellent strategy.
Nice modeling job here (though I am totally not a gun guy - I made a living from using guns for a couple of years - now when I see one all I smell is blood).
You've done well with the materials too.
Is it modeled on a real weapon?
Oh yeah, and welcome to the forums! |

Hi and thanks for the welcome, its not really modelled on anything :) it just seemed to grow out of a cube, life of its own sorta thing. |
