Working on Making Alpha Map Plant life for 3D Frog's online shop.
This is a prototype. Can be used in Real time WorkSpace or Rendered in Model side or in Vray both sides.
The trunk is not part of it, it's a cylinder.
Still working on the branches and the trunk, but will get it done.
Hopefully, i can add quite a few species to download.
This is a Workspace Render in realtime. |

Here's a model side with lightworks render.
didn't do a Vray, had to make a bump for the trunk and was lazy :D
So bump of cylinder just visible in model side, for now. |

Here's a fall version.
One reason for the alpha map is that is is easier to apply and easily change a color (diffuse) layer and change the coloring to reflect season, snow, water drops on leaves, etc. |

Looking like that might be a real useful tool.
Thanks

Took a break from the every day flora and jumped to some sort of jungle twisted growth. Needs more detail to the texture work.
Shot for the prototype done in real time Work space. |

cool stuff James!
thanks froggy,
Making it for your shop. Hope to have a diverse selection.
Since it's just maps, it can be low poly planes, so one can use replication of said planes and make a huge bio-diverse system with relatively low poly count.
The workspace image is 137 planes of 2 polygon faces each. So, low count for the twisted jungle growth image shot. Once I add more bio-diverse plant species, one can mix and match and not worry about a lot of overhead for the scene memory.
The biggest use of ram is the texture itself, but once replicated, it shouldn't use anymore than the initial because it's the same textures. |

Very cool James! Who knew you had green thumbs?! I really like your first tree.
The real beauty of cybergardening is you don't have to get your hands dirty!:D
This Texture Instancing sounds great - I've not yet had time to check it out. |

Okay, another species of clump done, this time Oak tree. Will work on the trunks later as I need to research the bark types.

Starting the structure of Oak tree (old stubby now) :D
Bare foliage and still needs a proper texture for trunk and branches.
Real Time WorkSpace Shot.
BTW, after I get trunks done on first two, I'll submit to 3D Frog's shop. Freebies of course. |

You can make some great moss on bark, grass and shrubs by using hair+cloth in 7.6. make root hair thicker in adv properties.
Animated seaweed even...
