I had a version of a program called 'Painter 3D' that was pretty darn nice..came with Poser 4 when I bought it.

Basically allowed me to load my TS object (First converted into 3D max) and 'paint' directly on my model and then export that image for texture application in TS or to be later fine tuned in another application lke Photoshop.

Deep Paint 3D i think is the pinnacle of this type of application...though I am not looking for anything so advanced.

But there is little doubt that after setting up your Mapping...that being able to 'paint' directly on the model comes in real handy with organic forms like people. Even if to just 'block in'/'outline' certains areas where distortion on the UV mapping might create some warping of a texture...such as under the arms..and comes in handy where the edges meet on a arm.

Sure enough....

I had a go at it a few months ago..response was hellish on my PC..not sure why as the PC is not too shabby.

But yup..that's the ticket

I know I always like as many 'basic' tools as possible to be native to TS where ever possible. I think this type of tool would fall into that category..once again assuming a rather simple set of tools..brushes ..effects etc.

As i would think most if not all would still opt to export the image to be refined in a program like Photoshop etc. after getting some areas blocked in with color/guide lines.

Deep Paint appears to be more of a 'final' solution...do the final painting right in the 3d object..which is nice ...but not really what I worry about at first.

Vinny,

Does it triangulate the mesh? This is one thing I didn't like about Tru-V, and just another reason u|v Cow is nice.

...I am interested in a direct-paint procedure, though, even if it's just to sketch an outline to later be brought into Photoshop for detailing.

EDIT: Just downloaded Tattoo and will give it a try. Thanks Vinny and Tiles!

Yeah, looks like it triangulates the mesh. However, I think it can still be used as a tool to map out on the model where certain textures should be, and have a 2D representation of that. Then you can just apply it to the original non-triangulated mesh.

Just a theory.

As long as you are not changing the UV Map in the editor you can just use whatever object format you want as your import into whatever paint program...as long as the UV info from TS is stored in the format you use.

After you are done painting you just really need the texture itself..the model used in the 3d paint application does not need to be reimported into TS..unless as mentioned you changed the UV map..or lost the mapping on export from TS and import into your application..

Even if the app triagulates the model first..it should not effect the UV mapping...of the imported object..allowing the texture to be applyed back in TS on your original object/model.... No....?

That's kinda what I'm thinking. Makes sense as long as the object shape remains the same (ie. triangulation only adds an edge through each face and doesn't move the existing geometry).

No need to reimport the mesh from tattoo. Just grab the textures ... ;)

I mentioned this elsewhere when the topic of Hexagon 2 was 1st raised - in 1 of their videos it showed their answer to 3D texture painting, & I think something that worked similarly in tS would be nice. I know tS has a 3D paint tool of sorts, but it's 1 of the old/modeler side tools, & we could do with something a bit more updated.
