I'm not sure if I should call this new feature, I'd rather call it a fix. How many ouf you guys dislike the fact that restricting axis for editing also affects eye rotation? It's driving me nuts, working in perspective view and being limited on eye rotation. The keyboard shortcuts make it a bit easier to toggle axis restriction, but it's nasty nontheless.

I agree - I think perhaps it was introduced in 7 as a "feature", but I sure wish they'd un-introduce it.

GraySho..what exactly do you mean..I'm missing something ..rotating while editing using the mouse wheel? or when you use only one of xyz axis..restricting movement of others ?..

I mean...."toggle navigation using ? axis" (x, y or z). Toggle X for example ("A" keyboard shortcut), use middle mouse button to rotate your view in perspective view and tell me if you can rotate your view around X. You can't I guess. I never found a reason to restrict the navigation to one or to axis, but found it very useful to restrict object move or point move to lets say x axis only, for precise positioning/editing.

So in short. Whenever I'm editing a mesh along x-axis, having y-axis toggled off and want to change perspective for better view, I have to toggle Y axis again just for rotating the view, toggle Y again for editing.

if I turn x off ..hold down the scroll wheel and right click and hold..release the wheel I can get x..the world widget works too..only when you engage the world nav tools via the icons the axis are truely restricted when setting x y or z icons ..it works the same in ts66 ..

only if you restrict say x and y you must use the world widget to rotate ..if you don't want to use the world rotate icon..clicking it you will see no restrictions..

I'm not using the widgets/3D controls because they get in the way too many times. I'm not using the navigation buttons either, just scroll wheel to rotate, but it doesn't work at all when x and y are deactivated.

Bug/Feature confirmed here in tS6.6.
Never noticed it before as I usually use View Widget in the corner to Eye Move- not always, but often enough never to have noticed.
I'm not sure why you would even want to limit eye movement in this way.
You lost me, Stan, with all that 'scroll wheel hold right click' business, it didn't do anything here.
However, Graysho, your simplest solution seems to be to use the View Widget when you need to move your Eye position while you have an axis toggled off. I know, I know, it sometimes 'disappears' behind other objects, but it's still there and useable- just hover and watch the Help Bar and it'll tell you when you are on target. Unknown if this technique works in tS7 what with it's crazy hidden Help Bar. No Cheetos for whoever thought that was a good idea.

The problem is that I can't just activate the navigation widget. That widget doesn't disturb me much, but it's the manipulation cage that I can't stand. For detail modelling (and I do a lot of detail modeling) it's more of an obstacle than a help.
