Would it be possible to to implement some sort of script to autmoatically resize images that are linked to, please? As it seems some people seem incapable/unwilling to stick to the forum limit of 800x600.

Personally, it doesn't bother me if they go a bit over that, but they don't seem to consider that if they go too large, people using lower screen resolutions will have to keep scrolling back & forth to read the text in the rest of the thread.

It boggles the mind how some people are capable of using something as complex as tS, but haven't mastered the crop & resize tools in their 2D app.

I'm not an expert at HTML & don't know any PHP, so I don't know how to code it, but something along these general lines ought to work....

Get image size
if x>800 add width=800 to image src link command

Then if someone complains about their image being out of proportion you can just tell them that it's their fault for posting an image bigger than the forum limit, & the way to fix it is to just resize the original image.

What about loss of detail of the images rendering? How much should that be sacrificed?

Do we have any examples of the oversized images?

I set a limit of 800x600 set for images. If a problem exists I should look into it.

Resize the image size would be show down the server. (need to open each redirectly file, check file size and then resize if width > 800 pixel). :o

the better choice is check the file size if bigger than ???KB -->clear the code ..... from there. :D

the best one is not post any image bigger than 800x600 pixel. :jumpy:

There needn't be any loss - there's nothing to stop people linking a smaller image to a larger 1.

url for smaller image (url for large image)

Check your PMs. :)

True. :(

Works for me! :)

<edit>

having thought about this a little more, this wouldn't be all that effective, as it would depend on the compression, etc of the image - the higher the compression, the larger image you can get for the same filesize.

If the image size check was done at the same time as the check for number of images per post is done, it wouldn't eat too much server CPU time, as people would pretty soon get fed up of it telling them not to post large images & would actually learn to crop & resize.

That would be nice!

hey Norm, how about adding it to the Ts&Cs for when people sign up? & maybe put a note about it in a sticky thread.
