Would be nice if you are able to edit what has been placed under the link tab when creating an attribute (An edit button). It would also be nice to see the actual scripting if there is any. It seems it would make it a little easier to see what fuctions exist under ts side because it's hard finding out what some of them do (I know the developer guide is to be released soon). For example the timer aspect I hook it up to a fan I created and it works but I wanted to know more about it so I go under its props. to see if I could identify the timer attribute and I can't and theres no way of going into it with an edit button so I try to find it under add attribute but can't really find anything related to it unless I'm missing something. It's a little hard creating very much interactive work by scripting if one does not know whats availiable and can do little. It took me sometime to find the quick way of making an object. Anyway, it's just a suggestion.

Some objects are indeed "compiled" and therefore leave no clues as to their inner workings. Developers insist this makes them run faster than if they existed in their script form.

For my part, I was rather adamant that if something existed in a compiled state, it should also be available in a script version. As you can see, my herald was not loud enough :( For the most part, being inquisitive as I am, I was off hunting across the internet for names of items compiled, in google.com search for related 3D Math sites. I found a few and after I researched what a particular item was, I could see the math and then realize that the math was compiled inside the objects. It is definitely the long road to understanding. I do not believe the Developer Guide will be as indepth as everyone wants it to be. I also believe the forums could prove helpful in this regard. We could for instance start a closed forum and document items with a thread for each. Perhaps a select few dedicated forum users would volunteer to help keep the area up to date. We could add data as it becomes available. Perhaps a short scenario demonstrating each item and subsequent uses of the item could be documented to give new users benefit of combined knowlege base.

I am confident the developers would enjoy seeing this happen. For them, most of the time does not allow for multitude of examples and such. We have the examples that are built into trueSpace via libraries. As we progress with users being comfortable with the entire scripting scenario, more will become available. I was not joking when I mention we are all pioneers. trueSpace7 is pretty wide open. With new forums, we have the capability to harness everyone's research and experience.

As a start, there is now extended smilie library. Is a bit too long at moment so I will try to find a way of limiting how extended smilies are displayed.

That would be a great idea.I try to figure out some of the functions that are truespace related and have been slowly and lazily writing down what some of the parameters are and writing in some form how to link up some of the aspects like the one I mentioned. I do unerstand that it will take some time to do especially since I just started into graphics programming by myself after finishing a good amount of programming courses at school. If you think about it, it could count as the one of the most important tutorials and if there is a steady stream of those whoi participate it could cover possibly more than the dev guide with explanations. Even would be great to catergorize them like widgets, mesh, and others. Hope more join in. It would help even those who do not really plan on scripting.

I like that idea too. Kinda half tutorial, half documentation. Perhaps someone could start a wiki page instead of just a forum alone? That way revisions are easily made and the most current information is directly available.

By the way ,if anyone can answer this, when you create controll aspects do they work like bools? I was creating an aspect that would make a sphere object squish down as it hit the ground determined by the opticle aspect(of a cube) to make it seem like it's bouncing when I put on the physics. It also froze the program with no errors. :)

Thanks

Also while we are on this, is the dev book to be shipped with the box. Sorry if this has been answered, I've been a little busy.

Norm,
Are you still going to create this Closed Forum? No pressure, just think this would be great idea!
Thanks

I can create the forum at any time. Question is who will contribute to it?

Let me know if you have an idea you want to work on and I can set up a forum and perhaps a new group that will have edit abiities.

Let me know via pm perhaps and we can get the ball rolling.

Norm..we need such a place to learn..it's a good idea

even if as you said "Question is who will contribute to it?"

we won't know until you create the place..to start, it's a good place to put all the examples you've posted already.."Norm's after hours coding corner"

bring banana bread for Norm..

I would definitely like to help but I'm uncertain how it would be organized. I usually stumble onto things, not necessarily looking for what I find. Is the plan to have some kind of categories where people could update as we figure them out? Or some kind of list for people to start to tackle?

this is a very good idea, even if it starts out slow it can sure grow. Learning process may seem slow but over time it explodes into many different areas. This area has flexibility beyond what other TS had, I hope we can harness this capability to the fullest. Let the scripts begine. . .

I actually just finished compiling a list of things to possibly cover. It would really be a lot of work but perhaps there could be a list of things to explore and explain, like the one below, that people could add to. And maybe this list could be posted somewhere with each thing on the list linking to an area where people can post information they discover about it. Again, it may be a lot of work (especially for Norm), but I can't think of how else to go about it. If anyone else has an idea, by all means. :)

I missed this thread somehow. I will discuss it with developers and assign one of them to this task.
