It would be really great if we could have tS save/store stuff [scenes, objects, libraries, etc] in a sub folder of My Documents [or anywhere else the user specifies]. I know we can do File, Save As, or export from libraries, but it's just not the same. Very few content creation progs these days store created content in a subfolder of their program folder, & even if they do by default, they have an option in them to change where stuff is stored.

I'm not sure about that. I remember when I had to reinstall Windows XP the last time (serious crash on my old pc), all the stuff in the documents and settings folder were gone forever (including all e-mails).

User specific - yes. That would be helpful to keep things organized. Right now I'm sure I have 200+ duplicated textures on my harddrive because I'm saving my scenes on a different hard drive that trueSpace.

You might want to have a look at my posts in this thread (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=73).

I don't have the Temp, Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, My Documents, My Pictures, Outlook Express email storage or addressbook on my C drive or under Documents & settings, for pretty much the reason you described.

I agree.

Any user created content (i.e. not installed with tS or a plug-in) should be by default saved as Alien writes.

Settings stored internally by the application should go in the "\Documents and Settings\$USER\Applications Data\$APPNAME" or "\Documents and Settings\$USER\Local Settings\$APPNAME" (I don't know the difference between these).

Some developers or users might think that it makes no difference, but it makes life much easier for people to manage archiving. You should not have to archive the "programs" you own in the same archive set as the "settings and documents". It also helps you when you upgrade your system and want to move data to a new installation.

I'm in agreement on this. Very few programs force you to become as intimate with it's files and subfolders as TS7. I've also often wondered why it always defaults to install directly to C:\truespace(X) rather than the program files folder.

I know tS7 does, but I'm sure 6.6 defaulted to c:\Program Files\trueSpace66, didn't it? <shrug> maybe my memory's going. :)

Speaking of stuff to do with folder locations, can we also have the option to specify where the shortcuts folder goes during install, please? I know I can drag it from the main folder of the start menu to the subfolder of my choice, but... I know, it's a small, insignificant issue really, but it would still be nice if it was addressed with future installs.

something that bothers me about the new library system [aside from those scrollbars]..to move the files [scenes] you must export them, so you can import them back..if your install of TS7 gets all messed up to the point where exporting won't work or Truespace just won't open, how will you be able to export them to safety?? ..or retrieve them..
