I see Trueplay is available so I've downloaded it. I can figure out to view some the demo scenes I have to double click on the file names.

Questions:

1. Is there some documentation? Be nice to know what the icons do, how to use the program etc.

2. It seems very sluggish on my system. Trying to navigate on the record player scene is very slow. I'm running Ahtlon 2600, 1.5 gig mem and nVidia fx5700 128mb card. Not state of the art hardware but good enough for most tasks. Things go better when I change the players harware settings to Pixel shader 1.4 despite the settings for Pixel Shader 2 saying fx family of graphics cards.

Thanks

I just finished the manual yesterday. I would expect it has to be converted to PDF and then released. It should be available by tomorrow or perhaps today if all goes well.

Regarding your video card, there are many possible areas that can cause a slowdown. Perhaps others with same card could comment on their experience and some common ground exchanged regarding settings, drivers and such.

This is the FX5 series of cards from NVIDIA again, a recurring question.

Unfortunately, the FX5 series of cards state Pixel Shader 2.0 / DX9.0 compatibility but this is in software and not in hardware, it seems. This means they run very very slow with DX9.0 applications, such as truePlay. Half Life 2, for instance, automatically treats the FX5 series of cards as DX8.0 cards since the DX9.0 is not well supported.

Anything above the FX5 series does handle DX9 and pixel shader 2.0 properly and runs fine, eg the 6600 and upward. Unfortunately, the FX5 series will not give good performance with truePlay (you can turn off some of the features using the Hardware settings in truePlay which should improve performance at the cost of quality).

HTH!

truePlay (http://72.51.34.84/DL/tp/truePlay.pdf) manual link. You must have registered for truePlay and activated your truePlay account for this to work for youl.

I think my reply got diverted as this thread moved, so I apologize if this gets double posted. :)

The tutorials are almost useless as you have no idea what tool is being used or what settings have been changed. Some form of text popup or better still a sound file. From the record player scene I see that it can play sound files. As is, a Camtasia recorded tutorial is far superior. Maybe things are different when played back in Truespace?

I agree, it would be nice to see what tools are being used in the modeling recordings. Hopefully this ability can be added in the near future. As for the recordings that I made, I didn't really have "tutorial" in mind when I made them, thus they are not really a traditional tutorial style. I think that they were placed in the tutorials section though because if you open them in trueSpace 7.1 you can see how they are made. You can examine how they are assembled in the Link Editor and even go inside of script objects and see exactly how the scripts are written. I would say that viewed with truePlay, they are more demonstrations then tutorials.

hth :)
