Throwing out some ideas for anyone that may be interested in creating or being involved in tutorial creation.

I have aspirations to make many many vid tuts relating to anim /rigging etc.

As a realist, I can't model/texture worth 2c. Well 1c actually..lol come on theres no point beating around the bush :D, so thats a future opportunity for modellers/texture buffs who are into group projects.(Commercial and free, but don't give up your day job just yet ;) ) Walk before running.

Interestingly I would have presented my almost completed current series of vids in an utterly different way (read more entertaining/ less pure technical abc) if I had had the partnership of a good modeller/s & texture artist/s. If this appeals to anyone for future projects feel free to give me a shout.

LOL Heres an example... I need a ferret complete with fur, plus a comical figure dressed in a loose fitting pair of trousers with cloth capabilites. Guess the tutorial it would be for? (Not part of this first series) further details on request.

For a future mechanical rigging video tut I need a clowns car with seperate parts for doors, wheels, trunk lid, windscreen wipers, suspension etc etc... think of the laughs you could have with building animating / rigging and learning with that!

What is a snake?... Its a string of rotation locks in disguise....cue snake sunglasses, cocktail glass, parasol, Daft blinkable eyes.... and so on, Teaching and learning in an entertaining way can be both a laugh to create and present but hopefully a pleasure to learn with. Trouble is for this first series I had no models.... all say awwww. Too late now but does getting involved making this type of stuff in the future appeal?

Another possibility? Combination tuts that combine modelling, texturing, rigging, scene building and animation as a package that ends with a user having a completed animation as a vehicle to learning creating and having fun at the same time. THAT would require a fairly large team effort to pull off, but it could be a blast!

Still sorely missing an Le/scripting wiz who has the knowledge and importantly the time to push TS's animation/rigging possibilites exclusively. Even now I could keep a dedicated anim/rigging "Script/Le boffin" busy on a list of enhancements needing built for months!

Don't think of the children.... think of the accolades.... the immortality.... The...... free drinks?.. ok well maybe not. But it could be enjoyable and rewarding and may lead to other things? who knows.

Heres another idea. But how? A series of tutorials could be presented as a 3D interactive scene in TS. Clicking on doors or objects within the scene goes to a subject IE it's a link to the streaming vid or practice model. A visual 3D index if you like, but presented in an entertaining way.

Heres an example "The Crypt" it's full of bones! Skeletons, various limbs, coffins, etc various items are the link to vid tuts or tutorial meshes or Rig examples etc. A 3D interactive index? Good idea, technically possible? daft, OTT you tell me?

Boy I am off on my passion again, if I was paid by the word I could be retired by now :)

Question... do we need more info / a further vid tut on weight painting or is the included vid with the manual sufficient? I think the current one is pretty good. There's a couple of tips I could add, but is it worth a whole new video tut to roundout the completeness of the rigging fundamentals series I have almost completed as a sequencial set?

This weeks project.... get together the vid flow plan for limb library tut to be recorded end of this week. Lights, camera acton... Damn ...take 2... ACTION, dog barks, neighbours have major shouting match, daughter decides to start up "the sims" on other pc... cue unwanted SIMS music.... ggrrhhh Take 3 ....aaaannnnnnnnnd ...ACTION.

Series 2 preview

Enter Clown car screen left belching smoke, doors flapping etc, Coughs to a stop stage centre, wheelcap drops off, rolls lazily stage right, spins lower and slower but seems to defy normal gravity keeping spinning with a noise thats just designed to be daftly annoying, when will it finally stop spinning? Finally it drops to the floor and at last the vid can continue.

Cue titles

"Welcome to Mechanical rigging for TS",

At this point the S of TS in the title swings from it's lower right point as if also about to break... Cue sound of sign swinging/creaking in the wind

A video tutorial by IK Handel and ******** YOUR NAME IN LIGHTS********,

Awesome models by ****YOUR NAME IN LIGHTS*****

Scene artist *******YOUR NAME IN LIGHTS*******

Texture artist ******YOUR NAME IN LIGHTS*******

I like these ideas,

You should partner iwth some content cmpanys, like TrueBones,

That way you could sell the characters that you rigg in your videos with some motions attached to characters.

ALso you could call it the T.O.M.B. (The Online Motion Box) or something I like the idea of a Skull mountain kinda trading place, where you catacomb the character bodys and motions catagorys.

Then use google to launch a marketing campaign for every product listed that is related.

Cheers

Thanks for ideas MrBones.

Agree that it could be a good idea to sell the characters from the videos. I tend to think along the lines that perhaps the tutorials should include the models, scenes or whatever as included with the vid as content purchased as a rounded package. Not so sure if selling them seperately is the way to go but open to opinions.

Regarding the motions. It has occured to me that similar to BVH motions perhaps collections of animated tracks might be useful. However it would rely on a standard rigging/naming convention, just as BVH does. Question I would need to find the answer o would be, would this preclude more advanced rigging systems? Eg if one action includes the need for say 10 ik chains, but another only needs 5, would the action/animation work correctly? I suspect not.

I like the idea of T.O.M.B !!

A marketing campaign without funds... Hmm a tricky prospect for sure

Keep em coming

Cheers

Ok I am outta here. Getting the Limb library to work as per manual is a non starter, so still need to dig further to uncover a better workaround if one exists. One thing is plain, the method as per the manual tuts does NOT work. Until I can get it finalised that vid tut may have to be omitted for the present ggrrhh. The hidden hours taken in doing tuts is huge, no wonder it took Jack 6 months to do his Organics vid. Great vid tut that!

Hi, I am new to ts but an experienced 3d artist in fact, I am thinking of a 3d encyclopaedia with free models and started the preparation at: www.1catalogue.com

My area is model - UV mapping - texture painting, I use Carrara, Animation Master, Zbrush and now trying to apprehend trueSpace.

The publication is to furnish trueSpace users with quality UV map optimized free models at game standard and can be turned into hi res, it is an open project so that no one need to reinvent the wheel and I was hoping that someone will rig and possibly create more variations while preserving the UV map.

Currently making organic model templates; Animal & plant since geometrical model does not require pre-UV map and there are some samples in the 3D-ebook.exe

Please download the ebook to check out the models.

Hi 3DAssets

Checked your ebook intro out.

Nice idea but can't help wondering why not just publish the free content to Turbosquid? There is a plugin to integrate Turbosquid straight into Truespace. But Turbosquid can also be accessed by anyone as a stand alone website, for uploading/downloading models free or paid, so TS not a strict requirement.

I have suspicion that clicks on the sponsors buttons will rarely happen, which may make it difficult to fund your project.

Are you wanting rigging for TS models? My principle aim is to empower users to easily rig their own characters, hence the upcoming video tutorial series I am working on.

If you would like to model texture UV etc for future more advanced tutorials I hope to do , Im certainly interested in getting together, feel free to PM me . Same goes if you would like me to rig some models for you.

Cheers

Igor, TurboSquid does not promote artists website or other publications by artist. I understand the level of acceptance about such sponsorship and that is why it is free, the primary purpose is to promote artist's product and anyone who wish to contribute something can have their page compiled with links to their commercial websites.

With or without sponsorships, this publication is portfolio that facilitate education and entertainment direct to the user. I shall have a complete description about the idea that introduce the kind of products artist can produce so that we don't have to rely on limited jobs.

Imagine portfolio that can sell.

I am currently working on learning more about charator animation. I am very determined to learn all that I can on the subject and was actually about to start asking questions about it.

I already know how to rig models and add simple animations. My problem which is slowly working itself out. Is designing a mesh that'll work well with animations. Mainly talking about areas such as elbow / knees /hips and just getting the mesh to deform the way I want it too.

Having videos that teaches this is a good idea, But MR. Bones, if the videos were to be sold at a price anything like the link you posted. A 1000 dollars for 16 videos? sorry but i'd shake my head and giggle. personally I'd put the money on a program like lightwave where there is heavy documentation and a forum that completely supports it. Not saying that TS forums does'nt support their program, But TS is'nt industry standard either and im just a hobbiest. Besides, there is already a great wealth of information on modeling and animation on the net for free already. May not all be for TS but the theories as I stated before usually is all the same.

The video tutorials for GS / TS were once a fair price. I did'nt bother to buy those.......right now I have 7 different animation programs that I get to work with. I'm sure i'll learn one of them... :) and when i do chances are, I'll end up writing a tutorials for it myself. I wrote two so far which are on the game creators forums. One of them is for rigging vehicles for use with DBpro and nividia Physx. simple tutorial but very effective for the program.
