I'm working on a way to create an engine animation using the LE to hook it all up. What I am thinking is that I can position a cube at the center of a crank shaft cam and another cube in the center of the connecting rod. Then somehow link the two so that as the cube within the crank shaft moves with the crank the connecting rod will follow it. It seems easy enough to do but I can't quite figure out how to link the two cubes. Can someone take a look at this and point me in the right direction? It would be much appreciated.

Ok...I got it figured out. At least for one connecting rod. Haven't tried with additional connecting rods yet. The connections aren't pretty but at least it is working so I know it can be done. Now I have to work on getting the rest of it put together. Any additional suggestions are appreciated.

very cool Bill..but, the top of the piston rod isn't running up and down in a straight line ..it's following the rotation of the crank ..or is that what you want it to do?....

Thanks Stan. At that point all I was concerned with was getting the linkage to follow the crankshaft cam. I wasn't sure about the best way to go about this though so I was just trying something and asking for other ideas. In the past I have had to keyframe everything. Move the linkages a little...save a keyframe...repeat...about a thousand times. With the new procedural animation capability it looks like I'll be able to rig up an animation in much less time.

My next challenge is getting the piston to move up and down at the correct speed to match the rotation of the crankshaft. I haven't worked that one out yet but I suspect it will require some programming and math.
