I decided to spend some time and try and understand the Link Editor and its features a little better.

I was trying to understand the panel making features of an object.

I am assuming the "Exp" stands for "Expanded" or something like that and is the tab that can't be removed.

The other tabs appear to be able to be created and modified. I liked the feature of converting a text style attribute to use a slider instead.

Unfortunately I couldn't change the attribute (once I changed it to be a slider). Actually it doesn't appear I could change the attribute at all in any form.

I expanded the ObjMatrix so that a new node appeared and then manipulated the values in that node. In particular I changed the "tx" attribute to be a slider instead of the text field.

It occured to me that maybe I needed to attach as an input link something that allows me to input a value to the tx variable and make that the slider.

Would that be a new node? What nodes allow input? How are nodes identified in RsNodeDoc.xml actually inserted into the link editor?

In any event, I'm not understanding something completely.

I have read the AG and DG but that doesn't mean I didn't miss something and will kick myself later for that gem of information.

Thanks for the help (I know that there are people doing sophisticated things with the Link Editor).

mendrak.. the slider will work..create a cube ..on the cube node right click matrix, then on the pop up menu choose expand , when the ExpandInMatrix node appears ..right click the handle of ExpandInMatrix node..the tools appear..select the edit box of SZ on ExpandInMatrix node,. then while it has the blue border, go to the toolbar and click TYP {type}....after the type toolbar appears,.choose the slider..it should now have replaced the edit box..now right click the slider [while it is still got the blue border]..the slider control options appear..in properties give "min" at least 0.001 so your object won't vanish..:D

That did the trick. I wasn't understanding what I could "expand".

If the attribute has a red arrow at the beginning does that mean that when it expands it creates a "input" node?

Are these what the other options do?

Delete - Looks like it removes the attribute - permanently it appears

Export - Looks like it makes it visible to the containing node as a parameter

Reset - Can't tell it does anything

Rename - Change the name so that it can be used in script?

Expand - Creates a new node off of an attribute (do all attributes support expansion?)

Assign to Icon - Changes the icon for the whole node when its displayed in 2d (i.e. you iconize it)?
