"Taking part could get your work exposure and coverage, as by entering the contest you authorize Caligari and its owners and partners to use your work in promotional material with proper credit given to you as the artist."

The "promotion" was for the Gallery and yet not one Rendering shown was given proper credit.

Good point! Does seem a little incongruous.

It's definitely something that Caligari should keep on top of. With no guarantee that the top prize will be given every month, this could be another disencentive.

Personally, I think the current monthly gallery idea is flawed, and Caligari would be better off having less frequent "themed" competitions open to all, like is done pretty much everywhere these days. With a decent prize, many people may download truespace to enter, especially considering it's free.

The speed and monthly challenges are a success and have guaranteed that the output in this community far exceeds that of carrara and hexagon, for example. Capitalising on this with some official recognition to the winners would be great for Caligari and truespace imo.

I have to say (personally) that the prizes are not really an incentive. I have Vray already and not really interested in a road map prize or XNA(?) membership.

As we are mostly digital artists, why not offer prizes such as Monitors, Graphic cards, tablets, Space Navigators etc.

Vray is still the best incentive if you don't have it but I am not sure about the relevance of the others, short of them being Microsoft products...

This gallery contest in WAY more beneficial to Caligary then the individual’s artist who participates. Caligary can use your art work to help them promote their stuff (even if you don’t win the contest). It’s an extremely cheap way for them to have access to marketing material whithout having to spend to much. :(

You are right, but if you are trying to build industry contacts and get your work presented it is one method to get some exposure... though it is not much good if they do not credit you :p ouch...

The point here is about giving credit, meaning the artist's name should be mentioned on the bottom the page at least.. Because this is what Caligari promises...

This is what I meant:

" by submitting your artwork, you authorize Caligari and their partners to use your artwork in promotional materials, and materials related to Caligari products, without compensation. You will be given credit for your artwork if you include your name with your submission."

I think Tom is without power right now due to Hurricane Ike. If that weren't the case, I'm sure he would address this right away. I'm certain this was a mistake. Every other page that I've seen has always given credit. They may have been in a hurry to make the page and accidentally overlooked it.

Not that I'm trying to excuse it. They should be more vigilant about crediting images. I'm sure Tom will fix it when he gets back online though.

Yep had no power from Sat at 3pm to Wed at 3pm. Sometimes in making web pages things get overlooked, just let me know and I can fix it up :) There is no malicious intent there, usually links are due to be added, or copy and paste is done with the plan of moving credits from one location to another (below pic credits to become bottom of page, or vice versa) but a task gets omitted.

Easily correct though, so will see to that over the next few days. Apologies for the mistakes on those pages.

HTH!

Tom
