I have been watching a modeling tutorial for modo which showed the making of a screw, like the ones we have in our PC cases. Curiosly if I could do it with the same speed in trueSpace I had to try it myself. The videotutorial was about 12min. long, while it took me about half an hour to complete the model. Though the tutorial was for modo, it showed me some important steps that apply for all subdivision modellers.

Good Sho, Nice modeling, Render looks good as well. The tutoral you used is it available on the net somewhere, wouldn't mind having a look at it. |

good modeling, lighting is off in both scenes. Top is too dark the bottom one has too much light. somewhere in between would be ideal. |

I've adjusted the brightness and contrast now, might look better now. I'm not sure why the scale looks off to you hultek. Is it the scale of the wood?

It's definately the scale of the wood.
The screws look great, the wood, eh, not so much.
If you have a flatbed scanner and a nicely distressed scrap of wood then you have the material to make your own custom texture map.
The POV of your camera is what, an inch or so off the surface? You'll need a macro scaled texture to match the POV.
Go put your eye an inch above your workbench and you'll see what I mean. |

Yer, I agree, I think the wood does not look very realistic. I think that that is a Simbiont texture. If so could be orite if you tweak it. Apart from that looking good:jumpy: |

Yes, it's a simbiont procedural exotic wood texture. Maybe I'm gonna tweak and scale it, but since it's about the screws I'll leave it as it is. Not that I have nothing better to do :D |

Really nice render, for a render of some screws. However the wood does look a bit off, however if you just doing it to check if the screws look alright then it's fine. |

Well if your only focussing on the screws then it is fine:jumpy: :D :D |
