Hi birvin. Sorry for the delayed response. Been nose deep in coding. :)

well, one way is to use the Link Editor (LE).
In 3d space, select your object.
Open the LE. Your object should be selected.
Click the orange square of the node, in order to 'enter / drill down into' the node.

You can then drill into the skeleton in the LE, using the same procedure.

To name your bone, select (left click) the node in the LE representing that bone.
Click the Default tab of the node.
On the left top corner, you will see a little icon: blue, black, and red.
Left click and hold this icon. You will see a dropdown box.
One option is: Rename Object
The title bar becomes editable, with a white background.
Enter your desired name, then press Enter.

And, Welcome To The TrueSpace Forums! :D

Thanks for your help. one other question say we have a humanoid model and attach a gun to his left hand bone does the connection take place at the join or in the middle of the bone?

You should be able to rename your Joints using the Object Info panel. Select your Joints with the SKeleton tools or Dynamic Pose Tool.

You can also use the scene view to rename. I think it's a little easier than moving around the LE. You can find your scene under Project.(scene view doesn't really make sense since it's a view of everything not just the scene). I'm not sure but I think joints are exported unless you choose the stretchy bones option. I think that's the case for collada export.
