Is there a way - using workspace and Vray - to achieve the effect of volumetrics - shafts of light through dusty air?

Thanks for any clues.

You could render under Lightworks with volumetrics and composite the V-Ray and Lightworks renders post-process.

You could create geometry for the shafts of light (as is done in real-time, games, etc). By nesting various such objects you can get brighter and dimmer areas, to give a fall off.

HTH!

No, Truespace Vray plugin (RIP) HAS NO volumetric Lights..

Far as i can remember Lightworks and Vray has Diferent FOV's. so its very difficult (to not say extremly or impossible) to mix 2 renders one from Lightworks and other form Vray.

My suggestion??

Vray and Realtime Render yes fit one over the other.. Set your backgrond to black, make a white cone shader (or what ever you want) with falloff transparency and in post process blend one over the other..add some noise and that's all.

and the easy one.. open your vray render on any 2d software draw white cones or lines in a new layer where you want to get the volumetric effect , set an "Add" or "Multiply" effectand that's all..

that's is how i made my vitreaux render..

Take care.

It could be simulated uses alpha mapped textures, but would be difficult to get the effect to look right.

If you render vray through modeler it should be the same (sorry I meant legacy modeler, or is it legacy truespace......??? I'm confused about what Caligari wants me to think these days ;)).

.... Ups.. Seems I AM wrong.. i tested and seems they fix that in some point... Good to know that..
So yes, you can merge Lightwork renders and Vray renders.... Thanks trasient to point that again...

Thank you very much, gentlemen. Prodigy, that's a beautiful window.

I have decided that 2 renders combined in Photoshop is the best way to go. I prefer using Vray over on the Workspace side because the Vray controls seem limited on the Model side. So here is my mini-tutorial for myself:

Do the Workspace render from a camera and using a secondary 3d window so I can set the exact dimensions I want. Then do the model render to the same dimensions and from the same camera.

Then if I paste the volumetric (Lightworks) render over the Vray render and make it semi-transparent in Photoshop, they will be centered and I can just do a symmetrical grow (or shrink), using the "transform" function (Ctrl-T in Photoshop 7 - use alt shift on a corner) until the one fits the other and the objects match in size. It's also important to set the blending mode to lighten rather than normal on the volumetric layer.

Thanks, again.
