Hi guys I am totally new to truespace, n modeling ;p.

At first I was thinking of maybe getting practice at designing in 3D (Maybe make videogames in the future, who knows) but I have heard this works for animation as well.

So far I can't understand much of this program, the complex UV mapping, the tutorials with skipped or not detailed steps (Suffered hell finding those buttons), and now I have no idea what I am doing with the skeleton creator.

Now, so everyone can understand what I want:

*I'd love to be pointed to some user created tutorials.

*Maybe some tips

*How does this animation thing work?

*Any fundamentals I need to know?

*A warm greeting n some hugs.

Here's a link that includes some user tutorials and some helpful tips....(http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=7619=post#4)

...And here's a link that can help get you aquainted with attaching bones...(http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?p=90011#post90011=post#6)

And...Welcome to the Forum !!!

Thanks, I'll be sure to get progress now (I have been trying to register in the forums for a week now, thank god I managed to get in).

EDIT:

Odd, I attached the skin to the skeleton, but the mesh won't follow the animation, how come?

Without playing the animation, make sure the empty body and skeleton are applied together as one object (move the newly made body/skeleton object to make sure they are united as one).
Sometimes, you'll need to make fine tune adjustments with the skin using the "Weight Paint Tool" and the "Heal Skin Tool".

If you need more help, share a picture of what the problem is.

Welcome to trueSpace!

There's also the Bitesize videos covering a range of basic topics:

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=6193

And the videos in the manual too, which should be very useful in most cases (be sure to download those, they are a separate download due to file size and don't come with the program installation or the PDF manual installation).

Without screen grabs and more info, not sure why the mesh doesn't follow, sounds like it isn't attached. Some thoughts and questions - be sure to use Attach Skin To Skeleton and not Attach Object To Skeleton. On using the dynamic pose tool to move the skeleton, does the mesh move with it? Did you record any keyframes when you say you did animation? Can you post a screen shot that shows you mesh and the skeleton inside it (perhaps in edit mode for the skeleton, or set the view to be transparent, so we can see both mesh and skeleton).

BTW, do you have any experience from other 3D applications, or a first venture into 3D? Just helps to know if we can throw terminology at you and you'll know what everyone means as you've done lots of 3D before, or if we should be more careful and explain things more as you haven't used any 3D app before :)

Well, the skeleton did follow the skin when I move it, so they were "one", but this weight brush, I read it makes the skin follow the bone more or less or was it that it made some bones more respondent to others (Like if I moved my arm, my whole body would follow it if I overdid it).

Maybe the weight is the problem, anyways yes this is my first time with 3D, I'll try to find a way to get pictures or videos of my problem, luckily I recently got this "CamStudio" program, will that do?

EDIT:

Ok, good news and bad but hilarious as well news:

Good news is, it worked this time, bad news, I kinda lost his head, I also managed to save the video in an Avi File, can you guys view that?

I can view .AVI, and many others can too (even though .WMV is more recognized).
It sounds like you got it though....just takes a little practice !

The 'Weight Paint tool' and 'Heal skin' tool are only used to fine tune areas of the skin that are not properly attaching themselves to a particular bone area.

The Weight Paint tool could be used to remove all weighting from a point on the surface and this will indeed mean that that point on the surface will no longer follow any part of the skeleton.

When you attach the skeleton, trueSpace automatically assigns weights. You may need to adjust these manually, usually around joints, eg where the arm joins the torso is one main area. Sometimes the torso moves too much with the arm, creating a large "dent" in the body if the arm is moved down straight down the side in the pose, or perhaps pulling parts of the torso out if the arm is outstretched. You could then remove the weight paint from that area for the top arm bone - but you'd leave weight on that location for the spine bone, otherwise that place won't move at all with any skeleton movement and that would be a problem.

Does sound like this could be the cause in this case.

AVI's can be viewed, but depends on what codec you use. AVIs tend to be large, and have to be downloaded in their entirety before they can be viewed, while WMVs tend to be smaller and can be streamed (you can begin to watch it while the rest is still downloading).

But an AVI is fine if that is all you have tools to produce.

I guess I'll just have to keep trying ;p, but I can't seem to attach avi files, from what I have read, I don't think I can post em on these forums.

If you're still having problems, and you feel that a video can describe it better than an image, you can always post the .AVI in a zip file.

Yep, just zip and post is the answer if AVI is not a supported file type.

Hurray it worked, I uploaded my video, although it is kinda old right now.

Also, are there any threads about skeleton handling?, such as creating my own animations for the skeleton?

To be honest I am having trouble with modeling as well (The Anglerfish tutorial is tough, I got stuck when they introduced the turning your drawing into the 3D model step), if only it could be made simpler or a more detailed explanation, or possibly an easier tutorial.

Last, could this software be considered "professional", or is it some wannabe program that won't get me nowhere?
