Hi all,

I am a new Truespace 7.6 user I have used 3D programs in the past and I was recomended this one by a few friends.

I was wondering if anyone can help me out to get started with this program, I mostly do automotive modeling and aircraft modeling but right now I can not seem to find any Truespace based tutorials on how to set up blueprints and how to do basic poly by poly modeling techniques.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

The course I made here should get you sorted:
http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts5/Courses/WorkspaceOrganicModeling1.asp?Cate=Training&Subcate=Fundamental

Covers both setting up the blue print and poly modeling. There are a couple of changes in 7.6 that "break" the video in a few places, but you can find answers to those here in the forums. Particularly the changes in the Material Editor is one that stumps a lot of people.

Welcome to trueSpace and feel free to post and let us know if you are stuck with something. We're a mostly friendly community here, lol. :D

I have downloaded that course already but I haven't had a good look through it as it was listed as Organic and I do Mechanical modeling :) but I will have a good look through it now, thanks for the quick reply.

If anyone else can point me in the direction of a purely mechanical based tutorial aswell that would be really helpful :)

Most tutorials for other programs can apply here as well.

I have modeled a car in trueSpace (still haven't finished that scene :o) and you can find the thread here: http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=7271
If you're interested.

I think it's a false distinction to divide modeling into "organic" and "mechanical". Except for game models, all modeling is "organic". There's really no such thing as a sharp corner in the real world. It's the rounding of the edges that give the highlights for metal surfaces.

Infact, I'd say that learning to model mechanical shapes organically is a very important step to mastering organic modeling. It's learning how to define the "sharp" and creased areas that is the most difficult part. Smooth curved areas are easy. ;)

That's a very interesting way of looking at it to be honest Jack and yeah you're right there. I didn't really think about it like that before.
