Hiya, Ive been working my way through Organics Modeling 1, Im up to 3.3 Roughing the head, Ive done the head but the part where you view from the left, Select by Rectangle, Select Faces and drag mouse over the right side of the fish to select the whole of the right side and then delete.

When i do this its only selecting some of the rectangles and its also selecting the same rectangles from the other side, I can not figure out how to change this, Im using TS 7.6 Any help would be great.

Thanks

Sounds like you have the mirror modeler active. You need to flatten the object history or remove the mirror.

Let me know if that solves it for you.

I flattened the object history and it works fine now.

Thanks

Another noob question, After ive cut the fish in half, Select by painting and Select Edges, Then drag it, So that the Y axi's is at 0, I cant get it to 0, It gets stuck at 0.123 and ive tried to manually change it in the info bar but that wont work either.

Dragging the mouse left or right should increase or decrease the scale value for the selection. If you get to the end of the mouse pad, you can pick up your mouse and move it to the other side of the mouse pad and keep dragging. ;) Edge of the screen doesn't matter either.

Other that that I have no idea what could be causing the problem, unless you've locked one of the axes using the XYZ icons. ;)

If you're still stuck, post a video or screen cap and I'll see if I can figure it out.

Not sure how to make a video without downloading fraps lol This is what ive been doing tho...

Select by painting, Select edge loops, Then select the outer edge, Left click the box on the widget( the one you do it from in the tutorial and drag, This does nothing for the scale it only changes the rotation and the Z axis scale, Right click is completely changing my model to something that looks nothing like yours in the tutoral, Ive messed around with all the boxs on the widget but none seem to work, If this doesnt help, Ill download fraps.

Sorry for noob questions this is my first time doing anything like this lol

Sounds like you may have changed the coordinate system. You'll want to switch back to world coordinate system. That or you've locked one of the axis.

CamStudio 2.0 is a great little screen capture app and is Vista friendly:

That's what I used to make the Viperfish tutorial.

My axis are not locked and im set on world coordinate system, I tried to Fraps but its not picking up the info bar, Its only picking up the screen with the fish, So all you can really see is that its not working lol Is this something that needs to be done or can i just skip this part? Lol

An hour 30min tutorial has turned into 4 stressful days lol

Few other issues im having are...

Sometimes i lose my objects and Turning the camera around just makes it worse, Is there a way to reset the camera back to front view awhile in persceptive mode?

When i add Cubes and cylinders etc, They are all coloured in some yellow spiral thing, How can i change the colour back to the grey( like the fish in the tutorial) Its much easier to see the lines for moving them about.

Thanks for all the help, I know im a noob but im planning on picking this up and making my own models and hopefully get my own mmog setup someday lol

To turn off the yellow highlighting, click the settings tab, click the titlebar of the 3D view window so that the "Desktop" panel displays in the stack. Click the dropdown for "Wire Highlight" and set it to none.

Sure you can skip the part with flattening the edge that lays along mirror plane as long as it's flat enough that the two halves snap together correctly, it's just something I do to prevent gaps and oddness in the model when it's mirrored.

Another approach you could use is to open one of the side or top views and use the rectangular select tool to select the vertices along the seam and scale them flat that way.

The trick to moving around in the 3D view is that the view rotates around the selected object's axis. When you keep that in mind it's a lot easier to get around. When you're in point edit mode, it's often useful to select a vertex even though you're not going to move it so that you can use it as a pivot point to rotate the view when working with a large model.

Be aware that tS uses quaternion rotation for the view so the poles at the top and bottom extreme angles cause a bit of problems with rotation, but it has the advantage of avoiding gimbal lock that is common in Euler systems.

If you find yourself off in the middle of nowhere: on the 2nd icon flyout on the main TS icon bar (the one with the XYZ) you can find icons for "Reset view" and "Look at Selection". You may want to hotkey these. ;)

You'd need to give us more information about what is not working :)

You'd need to open the Material Editor, select the correct type of material (one with a texture map), load your image onto that material, and paint the material onto the object.

The point at which it stops working would give clues as to what the problem might be.

HTH!
