I save all "Objects" as .RsObj......they can then be "imported" into your 'Objects Library'
I save my entire "Scenes" as .RsScn.....and also under the tS 6 files as .scn (Model side) |

Scene file is the whole scene, as opposed to just one currently selected object (which is RsObj). You will want to save the scene when you have multiple objects placed, when you have lighting set up, etc.
Layout files store your window layout - is the animation editor open, how big is the stack on the right, what libraries do you have open, do you have 1 3D window open, or 2 3D windows and 1 Link Editor, etc. Save those to handily reload the entire window layout.
Note that you can just use the inbuilt workspace libraries and save RsObj, RsScn, layouts, etc, straight to those. That leaves them visible to load with just a double click, and saving is just a matter of a quick right click too. Saves going in to the File menu.
The ctx is less useful to save, it saves absolutely everything about tS, from windows, to currently loaded scene, etc. Not something you are likely to need to do (well, I've never done it, but of course everyone is different so maybe you will find it useful!)

This one kills me...then why is it the default?!
I'd much rather have 'Save Scene' or 'Save Object' be the default action.
Such a common task should be made as fast and simple as possible- myself, I prefer a hotkey rather than the Browse/Open/Insert/ into a Library procedure.
@ nealiosnoise: Yep, Save Scene saves everything in the scene- objects, what they're textured with, where they're at, lights, animations, etc. |

Just to clarify - on model side saving a scene (.scn) does save the objects, lights etc and texture PATH but not the actual texture itself - so if you want to use the scene again or move it to another computer you need to save your texture images too - or you can use the 'archive' tool instead, which does it for you. I wish I'd known this years ago as over the years I've lost various importanat textures...:(
There's also a slight glitch where, if you've used HDRI lighting, the scn file will save the fact that you've used HDRI lighting and its settings - but won't remember the actual HDR image you used. |

yeah im on the verge of starting a project, thats why im learning what i can about saving your crap.. using the Workspace Side.
i messed around and made a body of a chicken, using 2 chicken pictures i slapped on 2 planes,
then i saved as Scene,
my chicken body was saved, but not my pictures and the planes they were on are gone.. heres a pic, and the chicken im working around,
18715
so im guessing its good to save stuff individually as objects |

Hmm, no saving as scene is generally best. It would be enormously hard work to save something like Marcel's latest Bot scene on this forum object by object!
Here it sounds like it may have been saved as an object rather than a scene - what format is the saved scene to confirm?
Thanks!

Add a plane next to your Rooster object and try it again. I think you saved as Object by mistake. I save as Scene all the time and never had a problem. If you really get involved you can also save as a "Project" which saves everything you see. I do that at the end to put on DVD for long term backup. So having all three options are part of my workflow and each has a benefit. |

I tend to use Save Object when doing destructive modeling on something - save it in a good state, then go adventuring to try and add to it, and I have an original object stored I can go back to should things go wrong.
But for overall progress, I save everything as a scene (and indeed never have had missing objects as a result).

i would like my own library to be in the stack view when i start up as default, or start a new scene..
Open the library(ies) you want in the stack (using the Library Browser) close the ones you don't want, and then Save the Layout.
If you want the Layout to show up as a tab along the top, save it in X:\trueSpace76\tS\Rs Main Libraries\Layouts-Configurations\
Also save the Layout anytime you customize toolbars, etc. |
