If this is 4 objects, then you just click on the one you want.

But that is to obvious, so I'm going to guess that the image below is one object and you want to select the 5 faces on the top right of the object....

Right click when the object is selected and you go into point-edit mode.

Then at the bottom left of the screen, you select the icon to select faces.

Press down the control key and select each face.

Does that make sense?

While in Point Editing.
Select the top face.
Select the Grow Selection tool.
Select the Select Faces tool.
Select the Convert Selection tool.

If there are separate boxes, then you should model separately, starting a new cube for each. This would make selecting the cube trivial, just click on it with the Object Select tool, and the whole box is selected.

If they are modeled together as one object for a reason (exporting to a game engine as a static object for the background, boxes will never be moved or treated separately), and maybe you want to apply UV to one particular "box" in the stack, you would use things like CTRL and click to add faces continually to the select in Point Edit mode as mentioned. If you have the "box" painted a different material, you could use Select By Material.

Generally though you would have modeled the boxes separately, in most cases that would be the best approach.

HTH!

PS if these were created separately and then Encapsulate In 3D was used to make them a group, you can select and individual box by using the down arrow on the keyboard to move into the group, then the left and right arrows to move between objects in the group. Or you can open the Link Editor, enter the group using the orange arrow, then simply click on the relevant object shown in the Link Editor.
