Can someone please explain to me how to create a simple DX9 Water texture to use on a plane?

TIA.

I'm not sure simple and DX9 go together. There's a lot to know about shader construction.

Quickest way would probably be to use the built-in "Alpha bacteria" material and put a water looking texture map in the diffuse channel. ;)

Let me know how advanced you're looking to go, because you can take it as far a adding vertex shaders to displace the water and make it ripple. :D

Shaders and LE magic are great for advanced users, but I suspect that many would find a library of common materials being more useful--water being one of the most common.

I suspect that to have a good answer to the original post, it is necessary to know the volume and environment that is to be modeled: glass of water, puddle, pool, fountain, pond, stream, river, ocean shore, ocean deep etc.

Right now, I am struggling with water of the pond variety--rather shallow, greenish, calm--no animation required. I have some almost passable results by adding a cloudy sky environment map to the glass material reflection channel and messing with the other parameters.

Perhaps Parva or Noko have some water shaders available? I seem to recall some great DX water from both of those guys. They would certainly be the first two that I would ask. ;)
