I'm brand new to Truespace and I'm obviously missing something as I try to work my way through Jack Edward's Organics Course. I'm fine until I get to Ch. 1.3:

-- when I drag the Constant Texture to the plane, it shows as a 4 x 4 series of rectangles, instead of the much smaller 32 x 24 blocks in the video. How do I get mine to do the same thing?

-- when I click-drag the Viperfish image from the Link Editor into the bitmap property thumbnail of the Constant Texture, the thumbnail updates and shows the Viperfish but the plane in the 3D view does not update as it's supposed to. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Rob,

Your second question: The click-dragging of the image into the thumbnail changes the material in the Material Editor only. Now to affect the plane, you need to apply the material to the plane by selecting the plane then clicking on the "Paint object with current material' button in the Material Editor. (Looks like a funnel.)

There were changes to the material system and the UV mappings for primitives when 7.6 came out. So it's not something that you're doing wrong. :o

Let me know if you're still stuck on it. ;)

Thanks much, Jack. I was stumped but that explains it. Thanks for the great tutorials - I've worked my way through the Organics Course three times now and learn more each time. Thanks again.

Hi all,

I'm completely new to using 3D imaging, and I'm totally amazed at truespace 7.6 and that its totally FREE! So I want to thank all who makes such a free program.

As I said, I'm totally new at all this, never used any program like it but I thought I'd give it a go and see if I can learn how to do some of it. So after reading though some info and some of the forums I decided to try the Organics Tutorial (I guessed it was the most basic course). I got stuck on 1.3...

I usually don't post on forums as I don't like to ask questions but I've spent the last three days going over posts and manuals trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong but I can't seem to figure it out.

The problem is simple, I can't make the plane, the icon at the bottom of the screen is missing (I can't quite hear what he called the icon but I know I have to get the plane icon). Also, the icons at the bottom don't seem to act the same as on the video, I don't get the icon list when clicking on them. I'm guessing this is easy fixed but I don't know how and I can't find the answer in the forums. Sorry if this is really stupid but could you please help me.

I did look at the entire set up of the vid and my truespace, everything is the same except the icons at the bottom and that he is using 7.51 and I'm using 7.6.

many thanks,

Dean

BTW, is the Organics Tutorial a good starting Tutorial or is the more basic Tutorial I can do?

Hi Dkwillis,

If you click and hold the mouse button over one of the icons, an icon flyout will appear. The you can select from any of the icons on the flyout by dragging to that icon. The most recently used icon will be the one that shows in the bar.

You could also try Nowherebrain's great tutorial set here:
http://www.scatteredpixel.com/files/Page1.html

He spends a lot more time going over the interface than I did.

Hope that helps!

Hi Jack,

Thanks for your reply, I knew it was something simple like that... just couldnt get it. Thank you so much, I'm able to move on with your tutorial now. I'll check out Nowherebrain's Tut in a bit... just one other question I forgot to ask... I have only 4 chapter folders in the download yet on your vid I see 14 chapter folders. Is that a problem?

Thanks,

Dean K. Willis

Nope, that's my fault. Caligari decided to break the video up into 3 parts because it was taking too long to produce and was quickly becoming outdated, so only Chapters 1-4 made into part one.

I'm planning to start work on Part II next week. But I don't think Microsoft is going to license Part II so it probably won't be free and I will likely be distributing it independently. My guess is that I'll be pricing it around $20, but I can't make any promises just yet.

Thanks again Jack, I got through 1.3, I think its gonna take a while to get the hang of it but your tutorials are great, so thanks for all your work, much appreciated! Thats a shame about microsoft but I guess thats copyright laws for you!
