Where can I find how many polys/triangles/vertices my model is? Also, whats a good amount of polys for a small basic house with nothing in it?

Bottom right in the window, at the bottom of the stack, is the object info box, which shows how many vertices there are.


That's in the workspace. If you are in the Model side, just right click on the Object select arrow , and it will open the object info dialog. This lets you see how many faces in a model (the workspace doesnt show that by default).


For poly count of a whole scene, you can go to Model side, create a new cube, delete it, then open the object info box (ie with nothing selected) and you get the stats for the whole scene.


Impossible to say on the house - is it hollowed out or solid, does it have three rooms or twelve, are the windows painted on in texture or actually modeled as holes, do the windows and doors include frames or just the holes, is the glass included, the doorknobs, etc and so on.


So the answer is "as many polys as it needs to have" ;) Depends on the use you had planned for it, which determines how you model it and what you model :) Could be as low as four (just a cube you're texturing to look like a house). Could be as high as several thousand or tens of thousands or more (fully detailed inside, even though empty it has doors, doorknobs, hinges, plug sockets, etc).


The thing to know is whether ever poly is there for a good reason (kind of like words when writing a novel). Post a screen grab of the house, and let us know your intended purpose, and folks can give advice on how well the poly count is matching the purpose (eg for a game engine where you just run past the house; for a real-time walk-through in trueSpace; for fully detailed renders from inside and out, as realistic as possible; etc).
