Not having a lot of experience in 3d , but working a long time with 2d for architectural-landscaping projects. What is the best way to draw something simple like a basic floor plan for example , to build upon a 3d project. Is importing some drawing from other software or a .png, jpg... the best way or can I make the basic drawing in ts7 ? Importing a png , like shown in the tutorials is a very inaccurate way of working. Adjusting the drawing , created upon the "background" that was imported, to the exact measures looks almost impossible with the knowledge I have of the software... Can anyone give me some advice ?

Welcome!. One way is to draw out your floor plan in a vector based program then save it as a .dxf and then you can sweep it in TS to make it a 3d object. Now some of the people on here have experience with SketchUp. I howerver do not. I do think that you can import thoes files in to TS, but don't hold me to it.

Thanks for your reply !

I tried in many ways to import a dxf file, but it did not work ... I might not do it in a correct way ...

If you switch to model side and use the file dialog, you can load a dxf file.

I think the import dll's are relatively old so you may have to save your dxf's / vectors etc out to older file formats, its little while since i played with this but i think .ai files had to be saved as illustrator 8 files and cad files were somewhere around acad 2003, anyway try saving them as a variety of older versions until you find the ones that work.

You can make the drawing in truespace, just use different primitives to build with, and adjust their size to what you want.

You can set what sizes you want, here is how to do it.

Have a object selected, like a box primitive.

Right click on the arrow icon, in either model or workspace.

You then can click with your mouse on that panel that appears, and type in the diminsions of what you want. Any of those numbers can be changed by typing in new values.

Just make a box, then set its size, and then use control-c while its selected to duplicate, for a load of lumber to build with.

Use the plane primitive first to build a floor to build on top of.

Also when this panel is present, you can see your x y z position indicated, and it changes as you drag something, so you can move things to exact positions.

If you need something an exact distance from something else, just make a "ruler" the correct scaled length, and position it so it acts as your guide.

Or, set your grid snap ( via right click) to that length.

Thanks for your help ! notejam and spacekdet.

Sorry but I'm realy a novice ,so my questions may look stupid..

"Right click on the arrow icon, in either model or workspace." In workspace I can't find an arrow icon at all ? and in model I only have the arrow (object tool)

In workspace I start from a plane.I can select the object or part of it left clicking in it from the object selection tools.

Trying to change a plane to the 2d polygonal object I need,I add or delete edges, vectors, I change the "bb size" of a selected edge to the dimension I need but changing a second edge to an new dimension makes the previous one change again... so impossible to create the 'groundplan" I need.
