Hello, I am new to ts and have been going through all of the tuturiols but have not been able to find a clear instruction on how to load back ground blueprints to model by. Any help would be appreciated! ts 7.6

Click on the Training button in the banner and the first thing that comes up is the organic modeling tutorial. Is that what you are looking for?

That course does indeed feature how to load an image onto a plane to use as a modeling guide. Good course all round, also does a great job of showing how to use the modeling tools in the workspace side!

Ok, what I have are jpeg images of hand drawn blueprints
that I want to load as template guides. Do I need to save these some where to get them loaded? I have watched the video but still have had no success, must be something I have overlooked. Thanks for the response! |

You can drag the jpg images directly to the link editor window from windows explorer. File-Load in the upper right hand corner also works for images. If you're not using the library from the lesson you can use the "ConstantTexturePhongMaterial" in the Materials-DX9 library and set the specular color to black to get rid of any shininess. Then just ctrl-click and drag the title bar of the jpg object in the link editor like it shows in the video.

I created a Plane.RsObj that uses a Constant Texture Material for tS7.6 Workspace. You can use the Material Editor's Inspect tool on the object and then Ctrl + LMB click the texture to add your Image.

What to bear in mind is that you are simply make a plane, and applying a texture to it. This is not different than if you were making a plane for grass, or as a wall - there's nothing special about the process just because you are loading a blue print. There's no special button, or special object, for loading an image you will use to model against.
trueBlue's object is a good one since it won't be affected by lighting, due to the material it uses. But again its still just a regular object, with a texture applied in the regular way.
So, as long as you think of it that way, it should be easier to understand! Its just a regular 3D object with a texture applied in the usual manner, and positioned so you can model against it.
(Note that you can load a background image, but its no good to model against since it will appear relative to the screen, and not relative to the world - this means if you move to the left or right, or zoom in or out, the background image remains the same, and your model will be out of alignment; in order to move around and zoom in amd out, your image needs a position in 3D space - so you use a 3D object and apply the texture to it).
You can apply most image formats to a 3D object as a texture, eg JPG, PNG, BMP, etc, so you will need your blueprint saved in a conventional image format for this use.

I don't get it. I did the tutorial and it worked, and I have done it before, but now, it does not show the constant texture section! |

• create a Cube
• delete the top and one side face
• flip all faces
• paint the rest 4 faces with the textures you need
• select one face and select the UV 2D Plane
• do this with the 3 others. |

Did you switch to the modelspace? That can wreck workspace dx textures. |

I can completely restart TS, and open a new scene, and I still don't see the custom textures for my plane. |
