Hi there

I'm looking for tutorial similiar to OrganicsModeling covering the issue of modeling of basic mechanism - for example steam engine - wheel, axles, rods, pistons, etc

http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en-commons/f/f0/Steam_engine_in_action.gif

It doesn't have to cover every single aspect of modeling - just the basics like merging objects, positioning, basic animation.

If anybody knows such tutorial let me know - thanks in advance

Check this out (first post):

That scene is the start of what you may be after.

You can see the inner workings in truespace's Link Editor (LE) view. In there, you can see how the parts are linked together.

Where's the Link Editor Icon?

In the bottom right portion of the truespace interface, fourth icon to the left.

Here's ivampretti's free script to control a hydraulic cylinder:

Also, if you want to go the 'spring' route, using oscillations, here's Dele's spring script. I've used this one on a number of projects. It's very handy. You can set decay to a very high value or just eliminate it, to get No decay. Basically, you have a timer, and use just a tx, ty, or tz component for the piston.

Here's my powerpoint presentation (viewer included) on scripting and the LE in truespace:

This is also available here, under the Scripting category:

Looking at the diagram you've linked to, as an example, you can think of the objects as links in a chain. To tie their movements together, you would connect the WldMatrix node of the link at the top of the hierarchy to the OwnerMatrix input connector of the next link in the chain. That way, the movement of the lower-link is relative to the movement of the higher-link. I think I discuss that in the powerpoint presentation.

There are other links to springs, pistons, etc. on the forums as well.

I hope that gets you started. Please ask more questions too!

Cool.

As TomG said, we must load these up on TurboSquid using Tentacles. That will be a good practice run for me. I am tied up right now but very soon I will be able to get it done.

VC tek plugins... NICE engineering plugins, for tS 6.6.

I have these on the Caligari PAK cd's.

Where did the company go..? Now that is potent plug-ins. A remake for tS 7 generation?

All images are from their website, archived on web.archive.org:

VC Rad is pretty awesome. I'm learning it at the moment and I'm surprised I haven't heard more about it.

It's a shame so many of the older plug-in companies have disappeared, taking their products with them. Caligari have really dropped the ball on this count imo.
