I have a question.
On the workSpace side can a change in DOF (depth of field) be animated?
I want to change focus from a foreground object to a background object over time. |

I was looking for a way to do this with Vray, I couldn't find one. I like how model side sets the distance for you.
I believe a way it could be done would be to have an invisible cube that is the focus object of the camera, calculate the distance between the two, using either math bricks or scripts, then somehow get it to go to the Vray DOF distance box every frame.
That is assuming, of course, that when you say workspace you imply offline render on the workspace side.
If not then I didn't know real-time had DOF to begin with. |

I think the answer to this is no. Even if you could, dof in vray is extremely slow to render. |

It is possible but this example is not the best. Someday I may create a better more complete solution. This example already has a couple of keyframes set for Vray - DOF Focal Distance. You have to have Vray - DOF checked in order for this to work. Scrub through some Keyframes and Render using Vray. |

Thanks TB!
I'll see what I can do with it. |

You are welcome. If you find it is not working for you, enter inside and select the Watch Dog object and or disconnect/reconnect the wires. Sometimes the Watch Dog needs to have it's heart restarted. You can also delete the AnimClip and start over. |

If you guys want I can make the WS equivalent of a "null" object which will be the camera focus, then do the distance calculation and make that the focal distance. Meaning no more experimentation, just set and render. |

Stan (I think) had a dof camera he made for 7.5, which was pretty awesome. I'm not sure if it works for 7.6. |

If by that you mean you will be able to adjust real FL and aperture, doing that will solve lots more stuff than just this situation.
This is currently one of the biggie's missing for me.

Here. (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=4990)
Unfortunately, it seems to be gone now. Damn.
[edit] I still have it if anybody wants me to upload it. |

Technically it would undergo the same process as the current upload from trueBlue. I'm not quite sure exactly how the Vray settings are accessed, but tB apparently does. What I was saying was to make a focus object which will determine the distance value under the DOF settings for Vray. |

Stan's camera exposes all of the vray dof settings, including the shape of the bokeh. It also has visual feedback, see pic.
Maybe there's a reason he took it down, so I'll wait for his okay to upload it again. Seems to work fine in 7.6 though. |

How does one access the Vray object that's sitting in the Space3D?
Or could someone at least tell me how they got the input link names? |

Robert, If you have Vray installed, select it from the Scene Viewer and then Insert As a RsObj into a Library. Then you can load it into the Link Editor for inspection. It is invisible set by the developers. To access one of the attributes you can use:
Node.Value(Space.CurrentScene() + "/Vray", "GI Scaling 1st Bounce") = 0.5 |
