I'm a novice on truespace 7.6 so i have no idea whats going on with my background. I checked the "show envir. image" but it doesnt show the background until post rendering. Its frustrating, trying to position objects without a background reference... can anyone help please!

The Show Environment Image feature is designed to only show the image at render time, if you want to make a reference make a huge sphere at 0,0,0, flip the normals, and then map the image onto that.

Make sure you have it oriented the same as the render. In other words keep the sphere kinda small at first, flip the normals, render it with single sided rendering then see if it is lined up, if not just rotate it some and then scale up.

That method works if your using a panorama/wrap around image.

If you are using a simple background image create a plane make it look at the camera, or the center or something convenient and accurate, move, texture and scale it so it fits the background. Then just work on it from there.

HDRI course has course object just for this purpose. It uses realtime renderer on WS side to show how HDRI will be in modeler side. Might be what you are looking for.
