Someone would have to make one, I know there are a bunch of good materials we can't use. The only problem is the incompatibility; I saw a parrot material (http://www.vray-materials.de/all_materials.php?mat=651) that I knew just wouldn't work because tS Vray is not as up to date as the 3DS Max version.:(

Well, the problem that i saw about Vray materials and Ts materials are:

1) tsVray is not procedual.
2) tsVray doesn't have displacent mapping
3) tsVray doesn't have material layers.

in conclusion, TS vray is so basic that is impossible to get the same shaders than the "real" vray.

Hope someone from Chaos Group take a look on this forum..

Think there is still some potential in trueSpace VRay which is not discovered yet.

For example the mapped phong shader, with whom I just created this simple example to demonstrate how to change the soft lady into a ghostly reptile style woman.

- at first I prepared this set of images

16548

- then I set up the shader as follows, notice that I used a displacement shader for the whole image

16547

- the result looks like this

16546

- above was rendered with the first Panorama picture as HDRi

16549

while the following one was rendered with the second one

16550

I think this shows there is more possible with VRay, but it would need at least a collection of documented settings for different samples to show what is possible. But this would have to come from the user base as the variations are tremendeous.

- here for example I used the trick that Env. lightning only was checked and that I positioned a Spot light in the upper right corner of the plane. This spot light was reduced to minimum spot size That has an effect on the way the displacement influences either the whole plane, or just the part which can be seen in above samples.

In the past years I switched to a standalone render package especially due to this reason.

You buy the renderer once and can use it with several CG programs.

But why I wonder is that ASGVIS has downloadable *vismat files (vray material) at her webpage.

I just don't know if they work for Rhino and Sketchup. If Vray would have just one material format

you could load with all vray renderer that would be a start.

Some time back we (the guys from 3Dspace) made a vray material test scene.

Don't know why this file and the materials don't show up on the Caligari/Vray webside ... or I'm blind :D

Pop the materials and scene on TurboSquid where all can search and find em, skip the whole "need to visit the website and browse around" complexity ;)

HTH!
