Depends a little how you want to use it and what render engine you're using.

With Lightworks, you can apply any image as a background, you could create a 'skydome' or 'skybox' using your sky background as textures, you could use HDRI where your image includes a sky (and use this to provide lighting as well as just a visual background) or you can use Image Based Lights in a similar manner.

Not so sure on Workspace although some of these approaches may well still apply. There's various pros and cons, some allow the background to be unaffected by certain other effects (e.g. fog) which may be an advantage or disadvantage depending on your situation.

If you're a bit more specific about what you're trying to do, folks will advise the best solution. Try a forum search on 'skydomes' and you'll find a number of threads, some recent, on that subject for starters. There's a bunch of threads on HDRI too, and you can look in the Manual for stuff on using the 'background shader'.

Quick tut here on skydomes (http://www.spacekdet.com/tutorials/skydome/).

An IBL light with 'show environment' box ticked can also act as a background.
The camera/viewpoint will need to be inside the 'ring' (it's actually a sphere)
If the texture doesn't tile, you'll have to watch where the 'seam' ends up so that it's off camera.
This method can be slow depending on the settings. Nice lighting and shadowing, however.

The simplest way is just to set an image as a background.
The image below has a couple tips on how to do this.

Where is the background option in the workspace side of truespace? I can find it in the model space but it is not applying to the workspace side.

Great question...and I can't find the answer.

I don't have VRay so I can't answer anything specific there. There may be a way to render one, but this is 100% a guess.
Getting one to display is another matter.

You'd *think* there would be a way to set an image for a background in the realtime view, but after a lot of poking around I can't locate it either.
All I can find is where to set a color.

Looks like the alternative method is to construct a backdrop/ skydome/ bigass plane and surface it with the desired image.
Another option would be to composite the scene afterwards over the bg image.
Extra work, and not ideal to be sure.

Let's hope this feature is on the short list to be added.

To use Backgrounds in Workspace, I usually use the HDRI option.

There is a panorama object that allows you to drag and drop into your LE (2d aspect) and then utilize any HDRI image.

I think thats what your looking for, I will try to find this for you.

Cheers

a simple fixed background image object is part of the commercial shaderpack

like the model side background image it will always face to the camera and will change/stretched to the view size.
