Hello there, my questions for today.... :)

I see in model side in scene editor I can drag and drop meshes to make a hierachy.

Can you do this on workspace side?

Is there an equivalent glue tool on the workspace side?

Are there any good video tuts for making hierachy's?

BTW stupid question, tring to avoid asking this but...

In workspace side, object mode (ie not point edit mode) I would like to select multiple objects using something like a rectangle select tool, but I can only seem to multiple select clicking on each one with ctrl button held down.

?

Any help most welcome :)

thanks very much again

Switch bottom (LE) window to 2d aspect mode,

There you can multi select with rectangle any or all objects in scene.

There is something similar to glue in workspace. You can multiselect objects as Mr Bones shows below, in the LE, using bounding box selection. In both LE and 3D view, you can hold CTRL and click on an object to add it to the selection one-by-one.

To actually turn them into a hierarachy, the Encapsulate In 3D tool is the one to use. This is like Glue As Sibling.

There is no Glue As Child equivalent, as the real-time engine doesn't like deep hierarchies (ones that are three or four deep and more can begin to impact performance, see "Seal of Good Modeling" in the appendices of the manual). You can still make nested hierarchies one by one (group objects, Encaps In 3D; group another set of objects, Encaps in 3D; select both groups, Encaps in 3D), though.

You could also open an object or group in the LE, then drag an object from a library into there. Note that it will NOT acquire the transforms for that group automatically, you will need to hook the group transforms into its Owner Matrix if you want the object to move, scale and rotate with the group.

HTH!

Thanks very much Mr Bones and Tom

Those answers were exactly what I was looking for!

That will set me on my way.

I have a couple more questions in this regard but I don't want to use up all my 'wishes', so I will go and have a try and answer them myself ;)

thanks again

cheers
