Hi. Firstly thanks for all the help I have recievd so far!

I would like to import an object I have made in another program (anim8or) which consists of several meshes - so I can practice animating.

Specifically: a robot which consists of head chest arms etc all different meshes.

In my other program I can export in obj format and 3ds format.

If I import into Carrara it gives me the option of creating ome object per group - ie one object per mesh.

But when I import with truespace I end up with one mesh - so for example I cannot rotate the head independently. Or maybe I can but I can't figure out how to ;)

Does this mean I have to export and then import each mesh of the object independently?

Manual says :

3D Studio Binary Import

Separate objects within a .3DS file will be loaded as sub-objects of a single parent. But doesn't seem to be the case?

Any help appreciated.

cheers again

I prefer OBJ.

In trueSpace you can use the luuv plugins this allows to import with intact groups.

If your saved OBJ hasn't groups you can use the "decompose into objects".

Thanks very much Parva for the quick response. I'll check out that/those plug ins.

I have a feeling you've saved me a lot of work!

cheers

Aha, life wasn't meant to be easy :)

I have the Luuv plugin thankyou. It says it's for for trueSpace 5.x/6.x.

Okay, well I have 7.6. Anyways, I placed the plugin in my tsx folder, and find it's with eyezoom66 etc.

But when I try to use the package installer to install the plug in the installer is looking for rsx files.

In my tsx folder all the different plugins have tsx extensions.

A search in the 7.6 manual for tsx files tells me to use the '3dplugin' icon which appears to be the same icon as the "Package Manager".

With this 3dplugin icon I can, according to the 7.6 manual (chapter 2 page 197), install tsx files.

Any help appreciated. :)

Looks like you are taking the long way around the mountain.
Click on the icon on the bottom that I have circled.
That will bmring up the file menu you see above it.
The arrow points to the most recent LUUV plugin available for TS, it comes with TS7.6 and it is in your tsx folder already.

BTW

For clarification I am on Model side, that is the older TS6.6 side of the program, not the newer 7.6 side of the program WS

Thanks very much Rich!

I was trying to use the icon next to the Library Browser icon in the bottom right hand corner.

Didn't realise there were two icons exactly the same !! :(

thanks again, and for taking the time to do the picture explaining what I need.

Glad to help, I have been taunted by things far easier than that :D it's part of the TS culture :)

Have fun.
