I just started trying to learn how to model and I am trying to create a skirt for use as dynaminc clothing in Poser. This is the first thing I have modeled other than a coffee cup. I think it looks ok, but it has no definition at the top and bottom like a real skirt would have with a rolled over hem line. Any suggestions on how I could add just a little volume to the top and bottom edges so it looks more like an actual piece of clothing? Attached is an image of what I have so far.

Experiment around using these tools they do a pretty good job with things like this

Add Loop

Dynamic Sweep (a form of an extrude tool, very powerful and ideal for this type of thing)

Select Face Loop

Select Edge Loop

It took me less than 1 minute to make a quick and dirty hem on a basic cylinder this way. You will have to round it over to your own satisfaction though.

Good Luck.

I did try sweeping the top and bottom edges so I could scale them and move them a bit into the model, but with it hooked to the mirror modeler, it got some wierd results....maybe if I flatten the history the top edge will be ok with a sweep. With the bottom edge, there is a slit in the back and that particular loop does even worse with a sweep. I tried beveling those loops as well and the top worked fine, but the bottom was not so good with the slit. Maybe i should have saved a version without the slit and tried adding it after getting the edges right (I really should get into the habit of saving often).

Even though you are usin mirror modeler just do it like normal and drag those few akward edges back to the middle, shouldn't take too much time that way. It would take even less time with flattening the history, but then if you want to change something later it could take a little longer, especially if it's a design change.
