Hi!

I've just finished the first part to the Organics Course by Jack Edwards and I'm now awaiting the second part. I'm using Truespace 7.6

First, I get that a file opens every time Truespace is launched, but I saved my fish for the organics course, and once I reloaded it, it was very different.

It's eyes were gone and the model was like a scratty wire model (the faces were opaque but the edge showed right through them).

Also, after a while working in Truespace, whether half an hour or three hours (it varies), the space in the workspace tab suddenly starts distorting. As I move around an object with the mouse wheel, it would zoom away from the screen at the top and towards it around the left, bottom and right sides!

It just happens with no explanation, however the space in the model tab is fine.

Any screen grabs you can make would be useful. Obvious question, but can your computer handle the real-time display? Good enough video card, processor, ram etc.? If it can then it's either technical error, or user error tough to say without visual example, "pictures are worth a thousand words".

Hello again! I've just read a reply to my first post, by Robert Plante and I'm sad to say that there are more problems...

The fish project is fine now. Though to test what I've learnt from the course, I've started building a car and the same thing has started happening, but this time it's stuck that way.

Again the space in the model tab is fine. But now the libraries have problems. They contain just text saying that their objects/textures/etc are missing, or that the libraries are just empty. Though this doesn't happen all the time.

I've attatched 4 screen prints to this message. It indeed seems that I need an upgrade to my processor/memory/graphics/etc. Does anybody out there have any sugestions - and would it be worth getting a multi-core processor??

Cheers!

I'm still not 100% sure what is happening. If the libraries show as having objects in them, then later they do not, then this means files on your hard drive have gone missing.

If so then this would point to either a virus or a hard drive failure, both of which could write errors into the files when being saved or loaded, and which could delete the files too.

Let us know more detail about what happens, eg

1. Save object to MyObjects library. See the preview of it in the library in the stack.

2. At some later point, you find that the MyObjects library now says that the library is empty - your preview has gone, and just some text is left saying the library is empty.

Note that if you move the library on hard disk, then this will happen, in case anything like that may be happening. That text means that the folder either isn't there any more, or its contents have gone.

Could you be accidentally deleting items there? Are you also sure to be doing Insert As using what you want to save (object, or scene)?

Anyway, anything happening to the libraries is certainly not related to processor, memory or graphics card. Let us have more information about those situations so we can give better pointers to problems.

HTH!

He might of changed what dir the libaray was pointing too, and thus now has a blank library? I suggest you first click on default icon located in 5th column at bottom of screen which will reset truespace. That most likely will cure most problems. It might not reset directorys so you might need to do that too.

It looks to me like his field of view widened, not sure how that would happen though unless you're viewing from a camera object. Does this error persist if you save the scene, close tS and then open and reload it?

Yes this problem still persists. My car won't load in the workspace window at all now without distorting.

Sooner or later I'll upgrade my computer and see what makes the difference. Thanks for the help anyway guys!
