O.K. Newb question. When in Model View, if I add a material to an object then render an object or scene, I see what I expect - a rendered object or scene. But as soon as I move the mouse after rendering, the object no longer has the material and goes back to a grey (If viewing as a solid) object. Is this what is supposed to happen? I know it doesn't lose the material attributes on the Workspace View.

So the object looks like a brick wall, you render, then the object looks just grey after dismissing the render? That's not supposed to happen, what you should see after moving the mouse is the render goes away, and the object looks like it did before pressing the render button. So there should be basic color still.

Strange...

Check your model side realtime renderer by left clicking and holding the uppermost right icon, then choose each of the options and see if there is any difference, if not right click and see the settings.

Mr. Plante:

Thanks for the quick reply. Let me try to clarify. Let's say I have a primitive cube in Model Space and add a "brick wall" material. The cube does NOT appear to change after adding the material - it remains a grey solid (if I have view as solid selected). When I select render object, the object is rendered and the brick wall material appears on the object and stays there as long as I do not move the mouse. Once I move the mouse, the render is lost and the object appears grey even though I have not removed the material. Now in Workspace, the object changes once I add the material (like a "real-time" screen render.) When I go to point edit mode in Workspace, the material remains but becomes transparent. So is my model space functioning correctly - or does it only display material attributes when a render is done?

Well in model side on the render toolbar there is a set of icons that lie on the far right of the toolbar. If you are viewing in OpenGL I think it won't display the textures right, try switching to D3D mode instead.

I'm still in school at the moment, but when I get back home I'll try and replicate your issue then fix it. You should expect detail within 2-3 hrs. from me and maybe sooner from someone else.

This is normal behavior.
You may check your realtime display settings by right-clicking on the 'Draw Objects as Solid' etc icon. Make sure you have 'Toggle Use of Textures in Solid Render' toggled on. You may also want to turn up the quality by increasing the 'Txt res'

I think I know what you mean - you lose the 'rendered look' after you move the mouse. It's supposed to be that way...fortunately you can adjust the 'real-time' look in Model side by finding and selecting 'Draw Objects as Solid' icon found in the stack next to the right of the render stack. Also make sure that you have the 'view textures' button highlighted and to adjust the resolution of your textures by right clicking that same stack.

Oh btw please don't call me Mr. Plante, I'm still in high school (at least for the next six months, seniors '09 ftw:p) so it is just strange for me. Even if I teach I'll have my student's call me Robert because I attribute Mr. Plante with my dad.

Just thought I'd add that:D

O.K. Robert. You are obviously a bright young man! When I was in high school, the Commodore Vic20 was the hottest home computer around. I had an Atari400....how times have changed!!!

Yeah:D, now there's home built monstrosities that have so much power they need to be kept submerged in fluid to stop from overheating.:p
