hi all

how can I attach one object to another..

example: i have a box and on the left side of the box i want to attach a horizontal cylinder....

in 3DSMax I have to select "autofit".

What do I have to do with TS?

You can group them together so they can be selected and worked on as a single object. Use "encapulate" (Chaper 2, p103). The advantage is that you can open the object up in the Link Editor and work on the separate parts - or even ungroup them later if necessary.

Or, you can make them into a true single object using "boolean union".

Chapter 3, p145 discusses both.

1.) Select both objects and then 3D Encapsulate both of them together.
2.) Or connect the Cylinder's OwnerMatrix to the Box's WldMatrix.

Perhaps he is thinking of snapping the cylinder onto the surface of the cube though? "Autofit" doesn't sound like a glue tool to me, but a positioning tool?

Thanks!

Tom

I'm not sure if this thread is still being followed, but! I did find out the details. The snapping tools of truespace can be found in the modeling view. The snapping aspects of the objects are defined by whether or not snapping is turned on or off.

For more information, you can find it here, in the caligari manual
