TS 7.6 WORKSPACE

I have created a scene with a number of objects, many of which are themselves encapsulated groups of objects.

I often need to "drill" into the encapsulated objects by clicking on the orange square in the Link Editor. This works fine until.......

Suddenly, all the orange squares lock up and do not work anymore. Rebooting the program or the computer doesn't help. They are inactive from then on.

I have found that if I save an encapsulated group to an object library and then load them into a new scene, the orange button is then active again - so the corruption is scene specific.

After making the changes and then reloading the modified object back into the original scene, the orange button is again locked along with all other objects in the scene.

Before discovering that trick, I twice rebuilt the entire scene (loading all objects to a library, then reloading to a new scene. It worked for awhile, then the orange buttons locked up again.

Thanks for any clues.

Thanks Cayenne,

I responded to your e-mail, but am posting the answer here as well, in case it is of interest to others. It confirms my theory that computers are just weird.

The scene was named "DAD'S" and was in a scene library. The problem in the LE appears to be caused by the apostrophe in the name. I have tested this with several experimental scenes as well as other finished scenes and the results are consistent: when I add an apostrophe to the name (and reload the scene), the Link Editor locks up. When I remove the apostrophe from the name (and reload the scene), the orange squares in the Link Editor begin working again.
