Hi

Just as my question suggests, I am quite new to Truespace 7.6.

I'm currently trying to do the tutorial at http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts5/Courses/NewCharacterModeling.asp?Cate=Training&SubCate=Older , step 1 of creating the head template.

I have been following both the video & transcript, but do not get how one simple step is done, of how the author, after making one half of the head from the cube, cuts it into 2. The intention is to create the other half by mirroring it. The cutting process is not included in the video.

Here is part of the transcript:

As you can see we are just moving points to rough in the bone structure of the head.

Note that I have not made any modifications to the bottom of the head yet. That is because I prefer to have more geometry for the jaw before I start work on that.

Now I’ve divided the cube. Select the center face and click on Simply Symmetry to mirror the cube. I like to save the halves for future reverence. and it is referring to Step 1 on the above page, preparing for step 2.

What tool is used to divide the cube?

I tried to gamble by selecting the unwanted half & tried to get it away using the Object subtraction tool, and other ways, wasting several hours over what should be a simple step, but to no avail.

What is the correct way to cut through such an object? I'd be grateful to have all necessary steps mentioned + the required tools.

Thanks in advance.

Ah. I am watching the video now. What I think is happening is that you select 1/2 the faces and then delete them. Have a quick look at the workspace organics course to see how it is done there.

Hi

Thanks for replying.

I did achieve it by selecting the unneeded half, then used the "Separate selected part of object" tool to apparently separate it from the rest of the object, before "Delete an object" blew it away.

I was quite sure it had to be something simple, but even then, one has to find/know & use the right tools.

So, I can now continue with the tutorial. :)

Thanks, again

The only problem with deleting it like in the workspace organics course, ie selecting the faces and hitting delete, is that you can't then add edge loops without switching on the mirror modeller.

It some ways, it makes more sense to take the cube and make one of the sides 1/2 the original width and work with it like that. This way you can add the edge loops without mirror modelling.
