1) Without using a plugin can you change current view to camera view? If the answer is no why was this never put in TS?

2) I have a great picture of (you know who...the big cheese) mapped on two polyhedron cubes, side view and front view. On the new layer I am doing my modeling and I have it set to "draw as transparent outline". When I point edit the new model (second layer) the first layer also turns to wireframe. What do I have to set so that the reference photos never turn to wireframe. (TS7.11 Model View).

I'm only answering because to my knowledge, the modeller side of 7 is pretty much the same as 6.6.
1) Not that I know of. This is a rather useful function that would be a good built in feature.
2) In display options is there a checkbox called "Pass Thrgh" ? If this is checked, you should be able to have different display types for each object. Right clicking on the yellow diamond to bring up object specific icons is the easiest way I find to change this.
In TS there are icons\commands for "draw object as.." and "draw objects as" .. I have the latter hotkeyed (so I can cycle through scene draw type), so it took me a few tries to figure this feature out.

I'm not 100% sure what you are asking about the camera view and also I'm still in 6.6 ... but ;

Any object in the scene can be used as a camera viewing out from it's Z axis, but it must be selected first. The camera works best because it's wire frame doesn't get in the way of the view, but a cube with the top surface removed works, too. (Top surface because that's the Z axis and the direction you look out of the box.)

When I use a camera in complex scenes, I usually keep a smaller second window open with a zoomed in view of the camera. This way I can select it and switch my main window to the camera view. You can also select the camera from the object info window opened by right clicking the pointer icon.

If you are asking if you can switch to the camera view without selecting it first, the answer is no, I think because you can have more than one camera per scene, but it would be a nice feature to just switch - maybe with a pop up menu - to any designated camera.

If you are asking if you can turn the current view into a camera view automatically; again the answer is no but again would be a nice feature.

Steinie, let me know if this helps, assign a hotkey to the "View From Object" icon.. and you only must select the camera and press the assigned key to see from the camera angle.. I think is simple to use..

For the second question, no.. you cannot get a wireframe and solid mode at the same time.. But.. try to add a new perspective view, and select in the primary the solid and the second window you can select the wireframe.. and you can work with the wire or the solid and thats change in real time the other window and viseverse..

I hope you help.. :D

Good luck with your Roman's Avatar.. :)

You can set per object render attributes. Right click the yellow sphere selector. Why not set up a camera where you want it then you can select it and view from object. Screen grab is in Solid view.

Thanks for all the responses! Trueblue I'm not sure what you can do with your last post. Can you create a script that will take your current perspective view settings and make it a camera setting?

The problem I always have is I'll create a new scene and start to model add lights and as an after thought want to add a camera. But the view I want is the current one so I have to fidget with the camera to get it to match what I had.

Everyone's responses were appreciated and I will explore soon. The avatar contest continues!! Prodigy you set the stakes high:)

Sure... right after you make that Scatter tutorial of your Bird and Feathers exactly pixel for pixel. :p
But in the mean time next time you start your project load a camera and select view from that camera and navigate the scene with it. When you find the angle you like save it. Then select another camera and do the same thing as above. Save to scene or library.

Another quick solution: From the current (assuming perspective) view, create a camera and drag it towards your "eye" until it fills the entire screen. Rotate it to point towards the scene and back it up a little more until it disappears. Now switch to camera view and tweak the scale / zoom settings.

For those that haven't used a camera and don't understand what the big deal is; when rendering to a file, a camera renders pretty much what you see in your work space while any of the other views will render a slightly different zoom depending on the resolution you have chosen for your image.

There is a very handy free plugin called FindCamera that does a few of the things mentioned in this thread:

will create a camera from current view

displays a list of all the cameras in the scene and view can be switched to them with a dbl click

has "view memory" dots for quick recall (Eyezoom.tsx also has these in a drop-down)

http://ckgamefactory.hp.infoseek.co.jp/tsxe.html (in the render\misc section)

EDIT: After messing with it a bit more, I've figured a couple things out. Right clicking gives you the window shown in screenshot. Left clicking FindCamera's icon will toggle between current scene view (ie perspective, top, etc ) and whichever camera is selected in the list (this functionality is also available with the 'change view' button in the plugin.)

I use the same Plug-in as Chester, it works great! I realize the first point
in your post was "1) Without using a plugin...", but why not use a free plug
that does exactly what you need?

Another handy tip that some may not know is if you select your camera
and save it as an object, you get a thumbnail that shows the view and
can be reloaded into the scene in case you move the camera accidentally.

Also tS 6.6 and tS 7.x ship with the EyeView_66 tSX in the \tS\tSX folder. When used in advanced mode that allows you to preset up to eight views and swap between them at will. There's help documentation in the tSX folder that shows how to use this.

When I did this, I did it the same way trueBlue described, right clicked the yellow sphere, & set the per object render mode to solid for my reference image planes, then locked the layer they were on.

That is a fantastic tip!!! I never thought to save the camera.
