Hello,

I am having problems with opening a project that uses a deform object. Despite saving the scene with the deform object present and animation working properly, when the project is reopened the deform object is no longer selectable or visable in the model window. The object being deformed appears deformed according to the first frame of the project, but it will not animate. Since the deform object isn't visible, I cannot choose to stop the deformation and reselect it.

Because the object is deformed, and the deform object is present only in the scene editor and the link editor window(but not in the model window), I wind up being forced to recreate the scene from saved objects everytime I open the project. This is less than ideal. Does anyoine have any ideas on how to fix this?

thanks,

David

Hard to say what may be happening.

Best advice I could offer is to simplify scenario and use simple sphere in a new scene. I tested with simple sphere and did some deformation on it and keyframed it. Saved the scene as a library scene and it loads ok with no problems. Most times something complicates scenario so simplifying will help to pin-point problem.

Hmmm, my objects are fairly simple. I was posting about this project a while ago, if you'd like to check out some images of the shapes.

It's basicly a cylinder with rounded edges and a swollen deform tube. The most complex part is probably the texture.

Also, I've been saving the scene as a project rather than a library scene. Do you think that could have an effect?

thanks,

David

Update:

I tried saving as a scene, but when I opened that all my animation was missing. Also, the deform object was once again absent in the model window, but present everywhere else.

so, I am still clueless.

Perhaps the scene wasn't rendered to a camera and deforms are not keyframe recorded.

Try recording with a camera view and see if the deforms stick.

I'm not quite sure I follow this instruction. Looking at the scene editor, I have start and end key frames for the sphere, the solid cylinder(which is being deformed), the deform object, and the camera.

I am looking at the scene from the camera perspective.

Am I missing something?

Thanks,

David

Sounds right, are you viewing the eye view through the camera or the scene?

That question is confusing to me. I have the "view from object" button selected on button panel with all the perspective options(front, left, top, ect.). Is that what you mean?

Does anyone have any additional imput on why my animation isn't saving properly? I've kept tS7 and my computer running for nearly a week just because I don't want my deform object to disappear and my animation to be ruined.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

David

Seems a bridge scenario I believe. With the functionality of deform not fully transposed to player side, no way to save file/scene properly. As functionality from old ts6 is recreated for player side, this should resolve.

Thanks for the reply Norm,

You said:

Are you saying that this is a fault in the programing of tS7 and cannot be resolved until future versions of the program? I thought you had created, saved and reloaded a simple scene with a deform object a week ago? Are you working with tS6 instead?

thanks,

David

You have to save the scene on Model side - you can save to .scn file or to a Project library. Do not save the scene on Player side as the deform object has no meaning in the Player.

When you load the scene, make sure the Bridge is set to OFF. If it is set to ON or AUTO you will see the deform object briefly appear then disappear as the Bridge fails to synch it to Player side. When Bridge is set to OFF the scene should load fine. Once the scene has loaded you can then turn the Bridge back to ON or AUTO and select to Sync from Modeler, though there is little benefit to doing this because if you swap to Player view then back to Model view the deform objects are likely to disappear due to the Bridge being unable to Sync them.

I kind of had a break through... sort of.

I had been saving on the model side all along, but I was saving as a project. And no matter what I set the bridge to, it wouldn't open the project with the deform object working properly.

I had at one point saved it as a scene to my desktop, and that opened just fine, despite the bridge being on. Then I continued to test things and accidentially over wrote that scene... bummer. Fortunately I had saved the three components as objects so I smacked them into a new scene, animated, and it appears to be fine.

So, I guess what I am trying to say is that saving as a project always discarded my deform object information, but saving as a scene seems to work fine.

hmmm...

I don't get it, but at least it's save-able.
