Ok here is what I have. I am building a object to go into a scene. As you can see from the image the arm was built in a straight line to make it all line up. Now when I insert this object back in to the scene you can guess that is it not positioned where I want. What I need to know is...can I leave my object gouped together and rotate the "motors" for the arm. So far I have not been able to glue them together and move the "motors" seperately to position the arm where I need it. The motors are blue and I have the axis to the center to get the roation I want, but this is a far as I can get without doing it the "hard" way which as I see it is doing a lot of trial and error. If the other way can be achieved then I can insert this object into my scene and just manipulate the arms to get them into position.

Two possibilities come to mind:


1) Glue the objects together to make a hierarchy and move the object axes to be centred on the blue motors. It sounds like this is what you may have done but perhaps you didn't glue them in a suitable order? You should be able to go down the hierarchy to select the parts you want and rotate them around the motors.


2) Just link the objects with 1D rotation joints where the motors are to create an IK chain. This is pretty much what option 1) above is doing anyway.

I'm not sure what you have done specifically, but here's how I would do it.

As you make each part you can name and it is extremely important to name things that may have bones or need to be in a specific arrangement.

For instance:

Electric Motor 1:
RodA
___PistonA

or if you use bones and one is in a stringent hierarchy for movement

Electric Motor 1:
RodA
PistonA

This way you can click the Scene editor and check your hierarchy even if you don't assign any bones to the project.

Also, when you glue the objects. Note that you can glue as child in example one or in the second example I show glue as sibling.

Thanks for the help..sounds like I am on the right path..I am just getting abit lost...Making the hierarchy is my problem. I am not sure what to glue to what and what to glue it as. I figured the parts that are stable such as the coned top should be the parent, but after that I am lost.
