Hello all,
I'm working on an animation that uses a stand alone cylinder to modify another cylinder. I've placed the pieces into the scene, animated the motion of the deforming object, and they appear to function properly when I scrub through the scene editor, however if I play or render the scene the effects of the deformation do not appear.
Any Ideas?

Hello all,
I've enclosed some screen captures to better illustrate my problem. The first jpg contains four screen captures (the sequence is numbered in red). In that sequence, I am scrubbing through the scene editor and the deformable property is working properly.
The second jpg is a capture after hitting play on the scene editor. As you can see, the rod isn't deformed. If I render out the scene as an animation or series of stills, this is how the final result looks.
How can I ensure that the deform is visible when rendered?
Thanks,
David |

Assuming this is not a 'bug' in TS7, maybe this might be related:

Chester,
The link you recomended really applies to my situation quite well, but I cannot make the suggested solution work for me.
The suggestion was:
"If you advance to keyframe 1 then start your deformation, TS records the changes (if auto-record is on, otherwise you have to manualy record a keyframe). When the scene is reopened, advance to frame 1 and the deformation is intact."
Here is what I am doing:
I advance to the keyframe 1. I select the rod object called "solid, 1". I then click the "start deforming by stand-alone deformation object" button, and then I click on the deformation cylinder in the model window. Finally, I hit the record button in the scene editor.
Afterwards, the effect is exactly the same. I can see the animation when I scrub through the editor, but it disappears when I hit the play button in the scene editor. Any further ideas?
Thanks,

I'm still having trouble with trying to render out the scene with the distort effect, despite the effect appearing when I scrub through.
I've attached a copy of my scene as well as a close-up of how the scene should look (captured from scrubbing through the scene editor). As you can see in the capture, the sphere is simply moving up off the rod in sync with a deformable pipe. The pipe is distorting the rod, and as a result the Sphere seems to be breaking through the surface of the rod.
If anyone would take the time to check out my scene it would be greatly appreciated.
thank you,

Much to my surprise I was able to load that scene into 6.6 and I (think I) have solved your dilemma.
Right click the record button (in the main window) and enable autorecord. Select your cylinder object (NOT the deform cylinder) and press record to set a keyframe at both frame 0 and frame 100. This will tell TS to automatically record deform keyframes for the cylinder's vertices as the standalone deform object moves upwards.
IT would appear that by right clicking the record button in the scene editor you can choose for it to display what "would" happen (by enabling key view) and that is why the deformation appeared upon scrubbing. Kind of handy but obscure..this functionality should exist with the scrubbing arrows in the main window to avoid confusion imo.
Not sure I can explain it, largely because I can't quite follow the logic. |

Thank you for your help. I was able to make it work. I've attached a link to the video as well as a link to the inspiration.
Thanks again,
David

You're welcome, glad to help and I learned a thing or two in the process. The animation looks cool! Is it part of a bigger project? |

Thanks for the complement.
The piece is intended for an industrial video which concerns the dangers of botulism. |

I hear that botulism really screws up the nervous system so you might get some good use out of the TS bones too hahaha |
