I am tring to animate some snowman models I made. Truespace bones have not been very cooperative. When I attach a skeleton to the snowman model, the rest of the body becomes deformed. Is there a better way to make the snowmen move their arms without deforming the model?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Brian

Which TS version?

Beside that, depends of what you mean with the rest of the body becomes deformed. Have you rigged the model correctly?

You have to check which bone and joint influences which vertice. Native setup never fits your needs. You have to manually adjust it. This can be done with Edit Muscles.

From what i can see from your screenshot there may also be a problem with the edgeloops. Is this mesh even one single mesh?

To get only the arm to move, make sure that the bone associated with the arm ends at a joint at the edge of the ball. If the bone comes out of the center of the ball, then several vertices OF the ball are certain to have been assigned to the arm bone in addition to the vertices of the arm - in such case you would have to edit the muscles.

Before doing anything, I suggest that you post a screen capture of the mesh and skeleton being used...even better if that screen shot shows the vertices associated to the bone. There's no way to diagnose this problem efficiently by the rendered image.

Tiles,

I have seen native bone assigments work, for example skeleton model from truebones attached with one click. Granted I had to carefully line up the joints before pressing the attach button. Although your right errant vertices do occur, so some final vertice assignment is usually nessecary to perfect your character animations.

You might try to animate the arms speratly and the snow cones seperatly.

Also try animating just one snoman and then clone him, that way you can stagger the clips in the kfe editor to simulate slight variations.

Thanks everyone. I was using Truespace 6.6. I made some adjustments and now I can animate the snowman without it becoming deformed. This time I just attached the arms to the skeleton and the model works fine. Thanks again for your advice.
