Download Rotoscop Plugin from CKGamesfactory. With this plugin you can set Objects independandly from Wireframe display up to Solid display.

http://ckgamefactory.hp.infoseek.co.jp/tsxe/rotoscop.html

Then paint your reference picture at a plane. Set it to Solid view, and place it behind your mesh. Make sure that you have a bigger resolution for textures than 128x128. It's a bit too small. Can be set under Display Options.

Now you can set your mesh where you want to model to Wireframe or Transparent display. And so you have your solid background reference picture behind your mesh. Voila. Happy modeling ... :)

Thank you, I will give it a try but for some reason TS4.2 wont let me put anything in the solid view, all I can choose is wireframe or hide objects.

I have a question for you. Why aren't you up to 4.3? I looked back at my old patches and I'm pretty sure the last one was 4.3 and not 4.2. Just a FYI.

Make sure trueSpace runs with OGL or DirectX. When it runs in Wireframe Mode it just displays Wireframe.

Have a look at the very downright. There must be a button from which i guess that it shows a little wireframed cube at the moment ...

It's the very downright button. Besides the X Y and Z Button. Maybe you have set the menu to top. Then it's the very upright button ...

Just curious, how familiar are you with the GUI? Maybe it's because of this you cannot find it. There are hidden buttons in nearly every menuitem. Click and hold to access this hidden buttons. Some menus also open with a rightclick at a button.

I would suggest to have a look at the reference layout picture that came with TS 4.3.

To be honest I am not that familiar with the GUI, I don't know what buttons do what as I can't find any tutorials, not even basic tutorials.

If you right-click on the icon that should let you choose between soild/transparent/wireframe etc views (or alternatively, you should be able to go to File menu, select 'display options' you should get a little panel that controls various aspects relating to the display. Top left in this panel is the 'APIs' selection - this should let you choose between wireframe, Direct3D and OpenGL, depending on what your graphics card supports.

According to my old TS4 manual that is! In TS5, the control is at the bottom right of the screen as described by Tiles - see image below, showing the button 'popping out' to show the 3 possible states. I don't have TS4 on my machine to a screen grab now, but jope that helps you find the setting.
