I have been using TS since version Truespace SE and am now using ver 6.6

and it took me a while to grasp the coordinate menus due to that there are separate coodinate menus for the screen control, moving, and polygon manulapation, even though they all look identical. Having mastered this I still run in to things I do not understand such as shown in the attached image. I have a cube and try to sweep a face in the "X" direction. I right click on the sweep menu to set the dist. in the "X" direction to 0.5, but it doesn't work. In stead I have to set the "Z" distance to 0.5 to get it to sweep in the "X" direction. The coordinates are set to use world coordinates. What am I missing here??

When you select the "face", it has different "location" than the object. It faces it's z axis in direction it is facing. If you select any face, this is the way it will sweep, according to its "axis" direction. I guess it is paramount to following its normal. The widget/controller, is the deceptive element in scenario. It lines itself up according to eye.

Hope is helpful.

Thanks for the quick reply. What controls whether the widget icon shows up or not. Somestimes it seems to be there, and at other times its not. Anyway I enjoy playing with the program, even thought I have a lot to learn. Its not thats so difficult, it's that there really is a vast amout of things that can be done with this program.:)

There is a set of options in the "Global Panel" where you can enable or disable "point edit", "navigation" and "view" widgets. You may have one type selected and the other not, and depending on your current editing context it may appear that sometimes it's there and sometimes it's not.

Also based on the size of your object and how far you've zoomed in, it may be slightly offscreen where you'd have to scroll back out a bit to bring it into view, or perhaps it may be behind another tool panel that's open.

I have been really marking a real effort to learn truespace and its begining to make sense to me now. I guess I just wasn't really concentrating. The more I use it and the more I learn the better I like this software.

Attached is wheel rim that only took a few minutes to create.

In the mean time I have been drawing some more car wheels to learn TS as these don't require a lot of work but can add a lot of knowlede in using the software.

Sometimes is hard to concentrate when you have so many new tools staring at you. Once you become familiar with a couple of tools, you learn a couple more and next thing you know, the toolbars and icons are familiar.

You can edit your post in forums if the attachment does not work. In edit, if you choose to go advanced edit, you see attachment manager again, which would allow you to try the attachment and hopefully succeed. I was interested to see the wheel :)
