after having this software on my machine for a few years, and upgrading as time went on, I have yet to use it. always meant to, but never enough time. Having a bit of time now, I am clueless as where to start and was hoping someone can give some specific guidance. The number of tutorials versus versions out there seem to confuse the issue, and so far finding a good how to book for 7.1 has been fruitless.
If it helps, my basic goal is to build 3d architectural interior models of new designs my firm is doing. Obviously scale/dimensions are important.
thanks for any guidance,

Firstly Larry, let me save you the time looking for a book...nothing has been published since Inside trueSpace 4 by Frank Riviera (Rivera?) several years ago.
Now, first thing might be to purchase an architectural course from the course section of the Caligari site. If all this fails (how could it?) then it might help to post a WIP so we can see where you are coming unstuck.
I have seen some great architecture in trueSpace and version 7 HDRI will help here, Vray will also be a great addition.
Good luck, friendly and helpful bunch around here ... :D |

Welcome and good luck, posting questions here in the forums is a great way to get started, also the architectural course would be good as well, the introduction to product illustration that I developed may help you as well (sorry for the self promotion) and it is on sale at the moment and has a link of the main page, as this course was made in TS7.1 and is geared towards the new user, and has a little bit of everything in it, modeling, lighting, texturing and rendering.
Searching the forums might also help out, as you may come across some tips and tricks here and there.
cheers,

I too would suggest the architectural course - it is especially useful since it goes through everything from modeling, to texturing, to lighting and scene set up:
http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts5/Courses/NewArchitecture.asp?Cate=Training&SubCate=Master
That makes it a nice general intro to all the areas in tS that you will need to work with.
Then I would suggest another two courses that cover all aspects from start to finish, our two illustration courses:
http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts5/Courses/IntroProductIllustration.asp?Cate=Training&Subcate=Fundamental
http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts5/Courses/Newillustration.asp?Cate=Training&SubCate=Master
These are useful because they go from empty scene to finished image, rather than focus on just one step of the process.
For focusing on particular areas, if you are truly stuck, then the Polygon modeling course is a great place to start, so that you can begin making some objects and feel more comfortable with the software before going on to think about texturing, lighting, rendering etc:
http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts5/Courses/NewPolygon.asp?Cate=Training&Subcate=Fundamental
You might also want to look at the Getting Started courses, and the Spirit course, which are intended as very broad overviews of the software:
http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts5/Courses/NewGettingStarted_tS7.asp?Cate=Training&Subcate=Fundamental
http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts5/Courses/Newspirit.asp?Cate=Training&Subcate=Fundamental
http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts5/Courses/NewGettingStarted.asp?Cate=Training&Subcate=Fundamental
Whether you want to start with the general overviews (the Spirit and Getting Started), or with some specifics just to get started creating (the Polygon Modeling course), or with a start to finish walk through on particular projects (the two product illustration courses, and the architecture course) depends on your own personal preference on how you like to learn :)
HTH!
