I'm using 4.3.

How do i get the alien's arms to go all the way to its sides?

How do i get the bones to rotate so I can twist parts like the neck?

You need to set up the joints DOF values, you can bring up the floating menu to do this by right clicking on the DOF icon in the bones tab.
I don't have TS4 loaded so I can't show you any pictures.

Rich

DOF= degrees of freedom

Thanks for the quick reply. I've just found that to edit a skeleton, I can use "Build Skeleton". I can directly edit the degrees with the mouse. I don't see a DOF icon. I'm still trying to figure out how to add a new axis of rotation to joints.

There's an icon that looks like a wrench (edit joints directly). Right click on it to open the joint attributes. There you can limit the axis and angles for pitch, roll and yaw.

It's called "Add Custom Joint", and I can't get the button to become un-gray.

Thank you. I've just been frustrated finding my was around the trueSpace universe. I hope it hasn't shown in my posts (too much). Also, I was looking at the help files and not the actual manual. I blame my brain. I'm printing out the manual.
