I am trying to follow a tutorial from the internet on extruding shapes. I create a draw panel, select the draw regular polygon tool, and add a hexagon (the default). I then select the now visible extrude tool and extrude the shape by pulling on the end of the yellow double-sided arrow that appears in the center of the hexagon. So far, so good.

The next thing the tutorial states is that I can right click on the extrude tool and check a box to add a 'cap' to the extruded section. I right clidk and get an Extrude Settings panel with 3 options. Two check boxes are labelled "Add Cap to New Patch" and "Stitch After Extrude". The third is a Size option with a default of 1.

Now to the problem. I cannot check either of the check boxes as they are greyed out. Any ideas what I need to do to make this work?

Try right clicking the extrude tool and setting the options before you perform the extrude operation.

I tried this. I created a hexagon, then right clicked on the extrude tool. The 'add cap to new patch' was still ghosted, but the 'stitch after extrude' was accessible. However, if I create the hexagon, then deselect the object by clicking on the object tool, then select it again and right click the extrude tool, both are now ghosted. Same is true if I select one top hexagon of the newly extruded object and try right clicking on the extrude tool again. Both are ghosted.

Still stymied.

I found the same thing, it was always greyed - but I dont use NURBS much and didnt have long to look.

I did find I could just use the patch tool to add a patch afterward though, rather than during extrude. Is there a reason finishing the extrude and then adding a cap wouldn't work in this case?

Thanks!

Tom

that cap option is only available in nurbs edit mode, with the "extrude from edge" tool, and the curve must be a trimming curve..or an existing cap curve
