I am trying to create a simple model of a fish. I've started by taking an image and tracing the fish out.

I then used the loft tool to get this:

How do I now create curved surfaces to fit into both "sides" of the fish?

Is there an easier way to do this?

Had you used a NURBS curve and lofted it you would have been able to use the CAP tool to fill the sides in, but it looks like this has been converted to Polys already.

Because of the complexity of the shape the easiest way I can think of is to scale it so it is thicker, then use it to boolean subtract the shape out of a thin box like a cookie cutter. Perfom a "Decompose into Objects" on the booleaned thin box then delete the outside area of the shape.

I would have started with a square (or hexagon) and extruded from the outer faces so I already had a 3D opject to mess with. Give me a minute and I will try it...;) Of course, this is a poly-did you want a NURB based fish?

Even better, put your reference image on a plane behind and model to it. Since the last post, I got the image, set up the scene and began modelling-took grabs edited them and posted-so it is pretty quick and easy. Hope this helps you.
Though admittedly-12 minutes is a bit rubbish!

Man I think I need some modeling lessons cause I'm lost.

How did you make that 6 sided shape that you are extruding?

I drew it using the regular polygon tool then turned it on its side and swept the shape.

How did yuou make the original fish shape mmakrzem? Try doing that again, but instead of using loft, use the extrude tool. It is easier to do it the way splinters did, but it depends on whether you're aiming for realism or not.

You could also right click on the cylinder primitive Icon:icon_PolyCylinder: and set the # of sides to six.

This is the tool I used for the hexagon; :icon_RegularPolygon
